No man it will be site of Phil's first US Open Victory! 😉....at least I can always hope.

On another note looks like I would play that first hole by hitting driver left of the first fairway bunker...bet that rough is narly on both sides though...

Looks like its best to miss that green short rather than long...at least for me.

Really looking forward to the US Open; Shinnecock is a great old historic course, probably my favorite course in the current rotation.

Carry on my wayward drive

There'll be pars when you are done

Lay your weary wedge to rest

Don't you shank no more

Can’t wait for this one! The depth of these tournaments is getting so stacked. Such a long list of high potentials along with the lurking young ones who can fire a low score at any moment. I’m thinking Day or DJ.

I plan on going to the sectionals, weather permitting. Hopefully will post vids and pics here.

I hadn't heard he was playing, but a Happy Gilmore trot off the first tee would be an added bonus.

I see that we have some forum members whose index would meet the 1.4 or less criteria required to try and qualify for the U.S. Open.  Anyone attempting this currently (or for prior events)?  I see on the U.S. Open website that 500 of 8537 advanced from local events to sectionals which are shown to be "in progress".  But it also shows 80 of 156 qualified … a bit confusing :hmm:

I missed Sectionals by 2 strokes this year.  I summarized my round here, if you or anyone is interested.

June 4th is the day for Sectional Qualifying this year.  I'm not sure how many of the 500 move on, but its not many.

That's cool.  I definitely go check out your thread on that experience.  I see you are in WA.  We lived there for 30 years.  What courses do you like to play?  North Shore, Ft. Lewis, Auburn, and McChord were my regulars.

Hoping they bring back the “bite” the US Open used to have. Last year looked more like the John Deere than the US Open and early word is they’re widening the fairways and are gonna be more cautious with the greens. Shinnecock can be a real challenge if set up right, but it can also be pussycat if they set it up wrong.

I was just thinking after your first sentence, "But the fairways will be skinny-ish while being very firm and fast."  I guess if they are widening them, well shucks.

With their moisture meters, they can more easily judge green conditions and set them up better (should be 100% better than the previous open there).  I was just hoping they'd keep fairways skinny and force golfers to be cautious.  The wider it is, the easier for the big sticks to come out and blast away without fear of rolling through somewhere.

US Open related: A member at my course who also is a member at Chambers Bay told me they are considering closing the course this winter to turn their remaining 15 greens to full poa annua (3 greens have already been turned).  They've been over-seeding their fairways with poa as well, so soon enough it should be a real and playable test, should they decide to go back.

I live in the northern half of the I5 corridor, so I play mostly around Mount Vernon and Bellingham.

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
