Oh really? I thought shooting par basically means I'm pro...right?

Far from it.   If you average par it means you are a scratch player and still a long ways from being a pro.  A professional is a member of a profession or any person who earns their living from a specified professional activity.

Hey man, you’re a Pro, OK?

There. I said it. On the Internet.

That makes it true, right?

I don’t see anything in this thread that suggests you’ll probably fail.

I think we can close this thing out now, folks!

Most people are lazy f***s that are content with being average.

What I find interesting is how most peoples rebuttals to my words is "you know how hard that is? or how much work it requires?"

As if that's a real reason not to do something that you desire.

I guess when you want to accomplish great things, you don't see things as hard work, you see it as living. It's as much a part of you as breathing and it's deeply rewarding. What's so hard about that?

It sure will be interesting when I play on the Mackenzie Tour (and win) to look back at this thread.

Alright.  Let us have a bet.  10K.  I say you will not be able to earn 10K in the month of May.  Or if you want to stretch it out, 30K over 3 months for May, June and July.  You just need to provide proof of your earnings, not just borrow money from somebody and deposit it in your account.  DEAL

What's in the bag

  • Taylor Made r5 dual Draw 9.5* (stiff)
  • Cobra Baffler 4H (stiff)
  • Taylor Made RAC OS 6-9,P,S (regular)
  • Golden Bear LD5.0 60* (regular)

That hole pissed me off so much, I hit the perfect drive, so good that it carried the landing spot and went into the woods. It was a blind shot so I had no clue where the ball was but I couldn't find it, the guys I was playing with said it should have been in a perfect position. Well it wasn't. I had to take a drop and I was so mad I proceeded to duff the shot, chunk it, thinned it over the green, bladed my chip, putt off the green, I was a complete mess. I was so mad. Then the next hole I birdied...and the next I birdied. The winner shot a 69 and I was so mad that I didn't shoot better than a 77.

Not that it really matters since it was years ago, but if you couldn't find it shouldn't that have been back to the tee and rehit, not a drop?

Unless the woods were considered a lateral hazard, but since it was a blind tee shot so there's no way you could have been virtually certain the ball went into the woods.

Now going into 2019, I'd like to get to a + handicap (I'm a 0.9 right now). If I can get close to that level, I would say I'm on a good trajectory to reaching pro.

Getting "close" to a + handicap is not good enough. You need to be a +3,+4,+5 handicap and have a game that can travel, meaning you can be a +4 on any course you play.

Now I guess you guys have some proof that I'm not just blowing smoke up your asses.

No, not really. Nobody here knows you. How do we know that everything you just typed wasn't made up?

You haven't posted videos of your swing, pictures of tournament results, a verified handicap, etc.

Not just any course, but also in tournaments.

To get close to competing, even on the Mackenzie Tour, you have to be shooting at least upper 60's consistently.  You can say that you can shoot par or whatever from the tips all you want. But, until that happens more often in tournaments, you won't make it far.

Don't take any of what we are saying as trying to scare you off.  We are trying to help you realize that this dream is the same dream as possibly, a million other kids out there.  It's not an easy task.  We want you to succeed, but a part of that, is knowing what you are up against.  Otherwise, how do you know what goals to set? Being the best you can be is a label, but it doesn't mean much without a point of reference.

Scoring Avg. Stats. | Birdie and Eagle Stats. | Final Round Stats.

Mackenzie tour scoring average stats. Over 160 players, the 80th player scoring average in tournament is 70.1
They probably play courses over 7000 yards with a rating of at least 74. That´s a solid +5 index away from home and in tournament conditions.
The worst player on this tour averages 73.7. That´s still a +1/+2 in the same conditions, a really good player too !!

It sure will be interesting when I play on the Mackenzie Tour (and win) to look back at this thread.

I know when I ask if you know how hard it is, I do not speak of work ethic. You can have the world's best work ethic and go out and practice for hours on end, hit tens of thousands of balls and play 36 holes a day. It doesn't matter. You have no plan, no instructor, no real backing. I know several guys who tried and failed to make it on Tour as well as several who actually did make it. One of the first things you need is financial backing. Most if not all of the guys out there have someone paying their bills. It's expensive trying to make a go of it professionally.

Besides the financial aspect of it, you are just not good enough. There is a physical component to this. You think anyone who decides they want to be a Touring pro can pull it off. That's ridiculous. You are not talented enough to play at that level nor will you ever be. The guys who are out there were better than you, hit it farther than you, and shot scores much lower than you when they were considerably younger than you. Most have been playing big time USGA, NCAA and other types of amateur competition. You've played in nothing, why? Because you are not good enough.

So, write away on here about your ridiculous quest. I would bet my house on the fact you will never reach the Mackenzie Tour much less win an event out there. You may be a good kid, I don't know, but you are most certainly delusional. I always think it insensitive to walk on another's dream, but your incessant jabbering about this has finally sent me over the top.

Off topic, but there are no full scholarships in collegiate golf. The NCAA only allows 4.5 scholarships per school and the average golf team has 10+ athletes.

Yes there are Danny. A coach can “spend” the slotted scholarships how they please.

Not sure where my previous post to NM's rejoinder disappeared to... but I'll try again.  My scholarship included year 'round tuition, fees and books.  In the golf season it included meals. I included a fun story about overeating before a round but it disappeared, too.

How about an update on this Journey To The Mackenzie Tour?

Also the online business, how is that coming together? What area is it in?

😂

I gotta wonder, has ANYONE that's posted in this thread made their dream a reality?

Is anyone actually living out their dreams?

And if not, then why the hell should I listen to anyone here.

It's my thread, I'm going to write what I want and say what I want, keep posting and telling me why I won't make it. I'm enjoying the entertainment.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
