Bryson D - Skip the 3rd event? (what would you do?)

  1. 1. What would you do if you were in his shoes?

    • Take the 3rd event off
      3
    • Play the 3rd event
      12

So I assume Bryson will be the #1 seed at the Tour Championship.  So there is nothing to be gained in terms of seeding in playing the 3rd event now.  And at the last event - regardless of your play, if #2-5 wins, they still win it all.....

They re-seed and re-do the points, right? So if he's got first locked up, take the week off if he wants. But it'll actually be two weeks off, right? Cuz there's a week off after the BMW and before the Tour championship, no?

I’d play for the sweep if I were him. Odds are incredibly low, but that would be a hell of a run. I’d give it the old college try.

Yep, I figured that was clear to this crowd - it's an "extra" week off to practice and rest for the championship - thanks for cleaning up the thread title too.

I think it comes down to whatever he thinks he needs to be ready for the Tour Championship.  And how he wants to practice it.  On his own vs with the experience of another tourney against this specific crowd.

I'd play the BMW if it was me.  Maybe just for the chance to progress a possible sweep - no matter how unlikely.  That's not about preparation, it's about history...though..

and at his age, I suspect a week off is enough rest and the extra might be more distracting.  I can't imagine watching the BMW and not playing, it would kill me.

I would play, if I was in his shoes.  Taking two weeks off is not conducive to my golf swing.

Besides, it would be trifecta to win BMW.  Something no one has done.  I alway enjoy a chance at history.

If was just a week, id take off. They'd be no reason to play. But two weeks is alot of time to sulk when you're on a hot streak like that. Even if he's just goes through the motions, he should get out there.

Isn't there prize money involved?

Why quit playing when you are hot?
Prize money, OWGR rankings, Player of the Year consideration, plenty of time after the Ryder Cup before the WGC (I figure it will be his next event)

Players play, tough players win!

He's probably pocketed 7 or 8 mil just in course winnings this year alone. Likley twice that amount in endorsements. I dont think that dude is worried about money anymore..

But why pass up the opportunity to make more money?  Unless he really, really, really thinks he needs a break.

I dunno. But if i was in his position, id pass on the tournament if the tour championship was just a week later. Take a break from the travel and grind of a tour week and get ready for the one i really need.

Besides the money like you said or possibly some world ranking points, the tournament means nothing to DeChambaeu in terms of the PGA tour "playoff" system. But two weeks off is too long. He's got to play this week.

I voted play. Grind? Nah...not at his age. 16 hour shifts on an offshore jack-up every day for 2 weeks. That’s a grind. Golf and travel..yeah no.

I think there is a requirement each year that they play an event that they didn't do last year - given that he almost certainly won't be in the same position next year , it's a good one to skip this year.

He's hot right now.  Gotta add titles while you're on your game.

To stop now would be nonsensical.  If it's the winners' $10M thing he's after, hell, he's halfway to that after the last 2 weeks.
