What are the best Christmas gifts for golfers?

What's the best Christmas golf gift you've ever received?
What's the best Christmas golf gift you've ever given?

Do you ever buy yourself a golf Christmas gift?

I got a PING golf shirt one year with my ala mater's logo on it. Love that shirt. I'm literally wearing it right now. One year I got custom headcovers for my Driver, 3w, 5w, and Hybrid. Those were pretty sweet.

About 6 years back I got my father and I matching golf towels with our names on them. We both still have them on our bags today. Cheesy, I know. But it kinda looks cool when both of our bags are hanging on the cart together. (My dad doesn't walk the course... ever!)

BTW - If you celebrate a winter holiday other than Christmas, please feel free to substitute your holiday of choice in for Christmas in this thread.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Prior to this year the only golf gift that I have received has been a dozen Pro Vs.     We don't really exchange gifts much at Christmas opting to take a winter vacation instead.    But this year.....I did the I'm buying my Christmas, Anniversary, Birthday, Sweetest Day and any other day present.   I got fitted and bought custom clubs....Super excited.

I don't think that anything you get with your father is cheesy.   Cherish the time you have together and the opportunities to share your common interests.

From the land of perpetual cloudiness.   I'm Denny

When a non-golfer buys a golf gift for a golfer, it tends to go over very poorly unless they were given great instructions on what to buy.

I typically do ask for golf related items for christmas, but I'm usually pretty specific about what I ask for, and so far it's never been any clubs (Although for my birthday in October my wife did let me custom order my P790 3 iron from Taylormade)

Last year

Chromesofts - they were BOGO on Black Friday

Indoor putting mat with a ball return - specified the model that I wanted (the gravity based ball return model instead of the electric ball return model)

Quarter zip long sleeve pullovers - Got an Ohio State one, wear it frequently when golfing in temps under 55-60 degrees, also can wear it to work

This year

TP5 golf balls - on sale for $34.99, perfect price point for gifts from extended family like sister in law.

Ball mark repair tool - lost mine on my Pinehurst trip a few weeks ago. Good stocking stuffer

Rukket 10x7 Haack Golf Net and Real Feel Golf Mat 10"x30" - these two are my main gifts I'm getting from my wife. I've been wanting to have a mat/net for the back yard for a while but never made the purchase.

Quarter zip long sleeve pullover - Asking for a Cleveland Indians one this year.

This is my experience as well.

I splurged on a couple of things last year, but generally I don't buy Christmas presents for myself, golf or otherwise.

I don't like to get golf gifts from other people for Christmas - unless I've told them specifically what I want. I'm pretty particular about stuff with golf. I don't want your crappy top-flite balls, old clubs, etc.

Safe gift ideas, though:

  • Golf towels
  • Headcovers
  • Golf shirts or pants
  • Golf socks (yes, these can be a thing, and they're amazing)
  • Golf hat
  • Gift certificate for a round of golf

No clubs. Ever. Don't get balls unless you know exactly what the golfer wants.

One of the best gifts I got last year was a subscription to the Golfer's Journal.  Great photography, great writing, varied topics, and very minimal advertising.  Check out the link at

For the last few years I have been buying myself golf related Christmas gifts and giving them to various family members to wrap and give to me when we exchange.

They love it and I get what I want. Win win.

Also due to my older age I forget a lot of the time what I gave them so it ends up being a surprise when I get the presents back. 😉

I got relatively lucky last year in that Chrome Softs were on sale (I think they had just come out with a new generation or something) so my mother in law ended up getting me premium golf balls with the 'not the cheapest, not the most expensive' mentality.

However I don't play premium balls and I still had a bunch of e6's left so I haven't used them yet.

I have standing orders for my family not to gift me anything related to golf. Well maybe a tee time at Pebble, Bandon, or Dove Mtn, but that's about it. The issue is, I don't use alot of the stuff I have now.

Best present I ever recieved was a Scotty Cameron putter......twice

Best I ever gave was sets of golf clubs to family members. ( Daughters, and Grandkids)

Yeah, I will probsbly pirchase something golf related for myself, using Christmas as an excuse. Also depends what's on sale, or clearance.. Probably balls, and/or gloves. Maybe sneak a 6 pack in my bag if I play on the 25th.

Bottom line for me is that Christmas, and golf stuff don't go well together any longer.

I just tell everyone to not buy me anything golf related. When it comes to golf...I just would rather get it myself so I know that it's right. Over the years I have gotten a number of boxes of golf balls that I will/have not ever used.

My bag:

Taylor Made R7 (x-stiff).
Taylor Made Burner 2 irons (stiff)
Cleveland Wedges (gap and 60)
Odyssey two ball putter (white)
