I wonder what "Other " is in the poll? That seems to be relatively high unless it's "Ball Striking" related? Then it should be lumped in with Irons and the poll would make more sense?

Obviously, it's something other than the other categories.

I said irons, but to be more specific, ball striking. GIR is king. My putting and short help help, but GIR will improve my scores the most.

3 votes for "Other", I guess there just aren't enough votes yet to conclude anything. If I was a gambler, which I am :-D, I'd gamble that Irons/Ball Striking would be the peak vote in the long run.

I chose other because I believe what is holding me back is just swing mechanics overall. The swing issues lead me to be able to choose any of the above options, for the most part. I cannot really chalk it up to one thing from the list when the one thing that's truly holding me back impacts all of those options

This. I've been self taught for most of my golf life (2 lessons maybe). I always think I'll get things sorted out but it never happens.

Other.

Generally, I have a good swing mechanics.  My putting averages around 30 putts per round.  My short game is good.

But I always seem to have two or three blow-up holes.  If I don't, I shoot in mid- to high 70's.  But those blow-up holes puts me in mid-80's.  I don't know what it is, lack of concentration perhaps.

My driving has always held me back.  My driving handicap has typically been high teens while my approach handicap has been around 10 and my short game handicaps low single digits. Funny though, as my driving has improved I'm feeling my approach shots aren't converting as well.

I chose "other" because distance was not on the list. Due to age, and previous injuries, my distance suffers.

Other than that, I can still be competitive with the game I have.

IRONS

My course ir relatively short from the tips so i hit a lot of wedges to the green and i'm good a it.
But when i go out and compete in scratch tournaments on longer courses i´m forces to hit more mid to long irons and i suck at it!

Lack of time to practice them would be the 2nd thing holding me back

Talent.

Ultimately this is my issue as well.

I voted for driving because I am too wild on a week to week basis. Some weeks it is I can't put 2-3 swings together. So I'll hit a good drive, flare and iron. Drive it in the trees. Hit a few good ones and then another flare in to trees. (We have alot of trees on our course). I can keep a round together with my putter but too many holes in the trees and I won't break 80.

Then you should fix that.

AimPoint and this:

Thanks for that thread !     I remembered another thing about my lack of putting ability ... I've only broken 80 twice, and can anyone guess what the common denominator was each time ?

wait for it ...

Putting was off the chart stellar (for me) in both of those rounds.   It was automatic - it was like the ball had eyes.

I'm surprised I'm the ONLY one who responded to the poll who feels putting is their achilles heel.   Now I'm even more depressed about the sad state of my putting...

My poor rounds are usually high in putting and chipping as well, but my thinking is that my horrible approach game got me there in the first place, possibly preceded by my horrible tee shot... 🤪🤪😂🤪

    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. I am excited to see who can handle it and who cant. Last year we got a foreshadowing of JJ and Rory, I am excited for this year Who do people have winning? what will the winning score be? I am thinking 12 or 13 under
