With the recent developments from the LIV Tour I thought it might be fun to bring this thread back to life.

For me, my golf villain is, was and always has been Sergio Garcia. I've never liked the guy. I've rooted against him for as long as I can remember. It all kind of started when he was just a youngster on the tour and he complained that Americans don't know how to respect the game or words to that affect. During that time, I was living over in Europe and he used to rant all the time about how much he didn't like the American fan base. I kept thinking "Screw you, dude. Don't go play there." I also remember when he came into the pro world and used to take like seven hours to hit each shot, my goodness it was a pain to watch.

Anyway, now with the LIV tour and his recent comments I like him even less.

Oddly, in the past I never had anything against Greg Norman. Actually, at first I felt sorry for the dude. Then later he evolved into this "Bitter old guy". But now some of his comments are completely ridiculous. Now, every time he says something, I want to roll my eyes.

Brooks being such a douche almost makes him a lame "villain." Most villains are cunning. Brooks is a moron.

I don’t think I have one that stands out but Brooks is a total douche bag. I’ve never liked him and enjoy seeing him lose. For a short while Sergio seemed to be making a change in his whiney, childish attitude but that fell quickly.

Keystone Cops level of villainy goes to Patrick Reed and his wife, I forget her name but I'll just look her up on Twitter under their burner account.   Patrick Reed enjoys sand castles and playing the victim card so often, the card wears out.   However they both do it so ineptly, it's just sad to watch.   I'll bet the PGA was less than half heartedly going "Please don't go" when LIV came along.

If they play more tourneys in the Saudi desert then maybe Reed has a great comeback story when he can build his sand castles as high as he needs to win.

As I posted in the LIV thread, the entire roster of their marquee signings are "villians" in some sense or another. The way these two tours have sorted themselves out is pretty hilarious.

LIV aside, I've grown to dislike Jordan Speith. A media favorite, but his comments are long and predictable. I remember a Ryder Cup press conference - every question was for Phil or Speith. Finally Daniel Berger interrupted him, something like, "alright already!"

Xander Schauffle, just because I don’t like him and I don’t know why. Just get sketchy vibes from that dude.

Co-sign Speith b/c he was a media darling and I really don't like it when the media props certain guys up over others.

DJ before LIV but it wasn't just one thing, he just irked me.

Brooks was always boring to me but his getting all upset about questions revolving LIV the week before he made the jump put him into that category b/c it's just so disingenuous.

And pretty much everyone who jumped to LIV.

Seve, in the traditional sense of the word villain. What a prick

In my own unique sense of the word, any golfer who doesn't look like an athlete, specifically the overweight flabby types. Aphibarnrat, Tim Herron, Shanshan Feng, etc

Really?  I've never heard anything about Seve other than he was a wizard with a wedge in his hand.

Yeah, he was known for his gamesmanship - clearing his throat or coughing when his opponent was swinging, jingling coins in his pocket, stuff like that.

Some might call it gamesmanship but to me it's just acting like a dick.

He would also act like a whiny little bitch when he was called out on it, like when Tigs mentioned it once.

And his unibrow.

I remember that coming up a lot in the old Golf Channel videos on the Ryder Cups of years past.    I still remember the "ah yes, a gentle cough in the back swing of his opponent.  A true example of gamesmanship" or something close to that.

Yeah, he acted like a jerk.   If you have to win like that, it shows who you are as a person.

Here's my current voter.   Gooch rhyming with douche cannot be a coincidence.

Gooch is a Douche

My vote is definitely for Greg Norman at this point. Has a perfect villain origin story, has the Saudi investment fund in his arsenal. Scary times.

I don't recall if I responded earlier in this thread, but IAC I am now with you - Greg Norman.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Yeah, there are guys like that, win at any cost.  It reminds me of an old poker player named Tony G.

    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
