As much as I'd love to be part of the East team, I'm removing myself from consideration.

10 days in Europe in Sept, 4 days in Vegas in November for work, and an unexpected/recently planned 7 day couples trip (with some golf) in the Dominican Republic in December plus my wife wanting to get a new car this fall/winter uses up most of our remaining "fun/vacation" money for the year.

I'll definitely follow along through the submission process and the actual event and hopefully plan better the next time the Newport Cup comes around!

If true, we may need to contact the New York Times for the earth shattering news this represents for the red team. This means we have a fighting chance!

It's like if Tom Brady was injured before Super Bowl Sunday. Now all we need is a family member in @jsgolfers family to get married and we might win one of these darn things.

@mchepp You may have got your wish, I just received a promotion and may not be able to make it.  Plus who knows, maybe Erik wouldn't pick me again anyways, I have been playing rather poorly this year.

Congrats on the promotion! You are a gamer so I am sure by the time the event rolled around you'd have had your game in shape. I am certain @iacas would have picked you because he can't leave the MVP on the bench.

Grasshoppers have invaded Las Vegas...

Word is two, to four weeks before their numbers drop very much. It's a migration. The critters there today, will move on at night, but are replaced by others as they arrive.

I played Arroyo club (the public course, not the private club) in late April this year.  The course was not in a good shape.  I would not play that course based on my one and only experience in April.

Even though I would love to participate in the Newport Cup one of these days, my travel plans are so erratic, I cannot commit until a week or two before.  So good luck to everyone this year and GO WEST TEAM!!!

Huh, it was good when I played it in late May.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
