Was the option of dropping near the point where the ball entered the hazard on the first shot not available? Or is it a local rule that you have to drop it in the drop zone?

Yellow penalty area.

Um, not a local rule, it's the rule: 26-1a and b. You have to go back to the point he ball last crossed the margin of the hazard, so your only options are to either replay the shot or got to the designated drop zone.

Those are the old rules.

Oh boy... Furyk just hit the flagstick with a putt on 17 and the ball stayed out.

Cant wait to hear from everyone who doesn't believe in keeping the flagstick in :-X

Sir Nick stated that the ball would have bounced over the hole at the speed it was going.

Yup, but I'm sure those arguing against leaving the flagstick in will forget to include that statement in their argument.

Wow Fleetwood is playing really really solid golf lately. Just made an eagle from the bunker to go to -10

For sure.

I also like when they hit a good shot from the rough it's called "creativity."

Really surprising to see Tiger take that 7. It's not a hole he's had demons with in the past, there was virtually no wind and and he has all that room the middle of the green. Was just a bit overly aggressive. Other than that, besides a few poor putts here and there, he played really well. Take that 7 away and he's right in the mix.

That being said, given the weather forecast this weekend, he can go out a little earlier tomorrow, shoot a 67 and be right in the hunt. Scores should back up with some more wind and cold weather tomorrow.

Yup. I'd be interested to know if he was trying to aim for the back of the green and just pulled it a bit, or if he was aiming for the middle of the green and just hit a really really poor shot for where he was aiming.

I can see being aggressive more on the drop shot because you want to minimize the damage and go for the 4, but that first shot was bad. Especially the way he was swinging his irons.

Another one from the announcers, Rory had 136 yds left and was in the fairway, "Oh he's got to get this one within 10 feet"

Meanwhile from 100-125 yds this season Rory is averaging 19'11" and the best players on tour from that distance are averaging 11-12 feet...

I’m waiting to hear how impossibly difficult this shot is. Or did I miss it already?

Tragic to hear about Tiger's two in the water.  By contrast, I think Jim Furyk achieved the professional version of the "no 6s" challenge today, so if he becomes a regular at TST at some point, we should make sure to have a "No 5s" badge for him.

How about how well-judged it was, as to the impossibility?  What kind of effort did he put into his judgement, or how much judgment did he display in making his effort?

Tracker mentioned that Tiger is the only one to hit it in the water today on 17. He's also the only one to hit 2 in the water on 17.
