Christine Brennan writes horrible Masters column about Spieth and Woods for some reason

Look at this gigantic piece of shit she wrote.  I mean, read this ****ing thing.  I guess we shouldn't be surprised, because when nationally known sports columnists write about golf (or mostly, just write) they're awful.  But this one is particularly bad.

Some highlights:

First, if I also won, where's my goddamn check?  I'm about to buy a new car.  I could use it.  But spare me this sanctimonious moral king-making we constantly want to do with athletes in all sports, particularly golf.  Jordan Spieth is probably a good guy.  I like him.  But we don't need to make him into Jesus Jr., who will save our youth athletes from celebrating.

Speaking of celebrating (emphasis mine):

Ooo, fist pumping. Uber -fist pumping, even. What is in Christine Brennan's mind that we have to set Tiger Woods up as some kind of villain to clash with Jordan Spieth's pureness?  Some other ******* sports writer did this when Mickelson won the 2010 Masters, contrasting Mickelson's sick wife with Tiger banging Hooters waitresses while Elin was at home taking care of the kids.

Tiger should definitely cut down on the swearing, but all he's really been guilty of is being a bad husband.  Why does he get turned into Aaron Hernandez?  Michael Jordan cheated on his wife with at least eight women (please, it was surely more) as was outlined in his divorce agreement.  Jordan has never been a villain.  Why is Tiger?  Because it's golf, I guess?

And don't make these assumptions about people we don't know.  We don't know--for sure--that Jordan Spieth doesn't have flaws. Frankly, I'd like him more if I found out that he chugged a beer in New York last night, while getting blown by two strippers, all while wearing his green jacket.  Now that's a guy I would root for.

Agree 100% with MsBrennan.  TW is self absorbed, egotistical jerk- a very poor role model and many are fed up w/ his act.

Good idea.  A mod must have fixed it for me.  I don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place.

Brennan apparently wanted to compare and contrast two very different people, and use the comparison to slam Tiger, and elevate Spieth.

They are people from different eras. Tiger elevated interest in the game; Spieth elevates humility and integrity.

Ah, I do so love a good Fire Joe Morgan ing of an article.

To some, certainly, Spieth elevates bland and boring.

Tom Watson has been troubled by Tiger Woods's act for a long time now. The cursing. The banging of clubs. The detached disdain. Watson cannot stand that stuff. He thinks it's disrespectful to the game's history. He considers it dismissive of the great players who came before. More than anything: Tom Watson believes it is impolite. This is because, more than anything, Watson believes golf is a gentleman's game.

wow, messianic - that's what you got out of the article? me - I just got that he's a respectful young man - to the game of golf, to the fans, to his opponents - where was the messianic part if you don't mind sharing the quote - I believe you're reading way too much into an article about a new champion exhibiting proper sportsmanship.

God forbid a player from getting pumped up for winning or making a great shot. God forbid a player fro holding themselves to such a high standard they might get a bit upset over a missed shot. Is it window-dressing or is it just because Tiger was hyper competitive. Does that discredit anything that Tiger did, absolutely not. Does that make Spieths win any more impressive, absolutely not.

Here's a tissue Ms. Brennan. Sorry Tiger couldn't live up to your overbearing standards. Sorry he wasn't a good ole southern christian boy that you'd want your daughter to marry. I'd think you might want to stay away from writing sports columns.

To Tom Watson, so what? There has been a lot of players before Tiger who have had tempers and have lashed out. Tiger is only getting the backlash because he's Tiger.

Just because Tom Watson hates it, we are all suppose to hate it? Sorry Tom, you are a bit uptight on this one.
