OK, we all know we're not Rory or Ricki Fowler, but every once in awhile we get just the right swing with a helpful tailwind and send the ball to tour level distances. This is what makes the game really fun.

Today, with a storm approaching, and a tailwind probably around 20MPH I came within 70 yards of 365 yard par 4.

That was really fun.

Earlier this year I was playing with a nice wind at my back and hit a 330 yarder on a par 5. 25 years ago I played in a scramble during a tropical storm with 60 mph winds. There was no rains and the tourney officials said play on. Don't remember any exact distances but there were some very long ones and some very short ones (into the wind).

That's what happens when I pull one just right. But don't let it fool you...I've been averaging about 220 yards with my slice lately...

300 is basically my ceiling.  I've crushed a couple of drives in the last week, and even with some wind and slope help, the longest was 297.

My average, thanks to GameGolf, over the past 4 rounds is 253.  I'll take that. :)

With the help of a slight downhill I hit a 310 yd shot. Everything about that swing felt right. I wished I could have recorded it. Definitely the best shot I have hit in my young golf career.

I've had two 300+ drives.  One that rolled a 100 yards on a very dry level fairway.  The other was at Mahogany Run in St Thomas.  The fairway could best be described as slightly trough shaped, raised on both left and right side and slightly down hill.  I caught the downhill just right and it rolled to about 320.  It was a 380 par 4.  Of course for the Pros, this would have been a 480 par 4! :-)

I used to play at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, SC, and on one windy day, I hit a seven Iron for my second shot into a 500 yard par 5. The next hole was a 400 yard par four, running the opposite direction, and I hit driver, 3 wood, pitching wedge.

I can hit 285-300. Maybe once every 20 drives or more, so about once every other or every third round. It's not really all that enjoyable for me because I'm so bad with the driver that when I hit one it's more of a relief to know that I can hit the stupid club right once in a while.

Every now and then I catch one and get it go around 300 or so. Not typical, but it does happen from time to time. This last weekend I was disappointed because I caught one that felt absolutely perfect, but it was only about 280. Don't get me wrong,280 is still about 20 more years than I count on, but my swing and contact felt so good that I just knew I was gonna get a personal best for distance.

Dude, most hackers on the local munis will see a 280 yard drive and swear it must've went 340. People don't realize how far 300 is on a level fairway with zero roll.

On a level fairway with a LOT of roll! ;-) Not sure I've ever hit a ball 300 yards, unless I caught a cart path and at least one sprinkler head along the way.....

I have hit many long drives and for me that's anything over 285yards, I am in my fifties fast approaching 60years old. My longest drive ever, with out any assistance from cart paths, iced over ponds, sprinkler heads ( there were none on this hole) or frozen turf was this year. I actaully had to double check the ball I was using with the group I was with. The drive was at my home course that I have played 100s of times. Besides putting me in the fairway, it also put me in a spot that. I had never been in over a decade of playing the course as a member, estimated distance was 310 yards and easily 20 yards further than any other drive I recall on that hole. A couple of things, first it looked like I contacted the ball above the center sweet spot of the driver face, 3/4 the way up the face, a hair towards the toe of the club. it was the one if not the highest highest drives I have hit, it was towering, the balls first bounce was noticeably in the 12 to 15 foot high range, must of just sprung high and forward. My average drive is in the 240-260 yard range. With a 96 ish MPH club head speed. Taylormade TOur preferred X Taylormade SLDR driver 10.5, loft increased to 11.5 degree. 57gram Stiff flex stock shaft. Set up is square. Yes a stiff flex and stock shaft seems to work for my even tempo swing. For years I used customs and heavier shafts. The higher you can hit it with low spin <2500 RPMs. the further it will go

I had a 283 yard drive Lon the weekend which more importantly left me in the middle of the fairway (two very rare events:). This also left me 235 in too the green which for the first time I'm my left meant I reached the green under regulation and made a nice little birdie after just missing the eagle putt!
