There was a mini argument about who is a fan of golf and who isn't, so I think everyone who cares to discuss can go ahead and post what proves that they are a fan of golf and what are some of the things that prove that they are not a fan of golf!

I will start us off.

I am not a fan of golf because I don't really get to watch golf at all.

  1. I don't have time to watch golf
  2. Different time zone makes it very difficult
  3. Different days off as I have Friday and Saturday off instead of Saturday and Sunday so the most exciting day for golf I am actually working

I am not a fan of golf because I don't really follow the lives of the players or what happens with players except what is posted in TST or when I sometimes see random articles on Yahoo

I am not a fan of golf because I don't have Golf.com or pga.com bookmarked, and I don't go there often

ok now the other part

I am a fan of golf because I love golf and there is nothing more exciting than being out on the course, and that makes me a fan of golf even if I don't watch a minute of golf

I am a fan of golf because I want other people to play golf and that makes me a fan because I'm trying to grow a game that I love

I am a fan of golf because I am on TST and there is no way someone takes time out of their day to post on TST if they were not a fan of golf

Anyone else?

Well you are talking about two different things, professional golf and actually playing golf so I'm not sure where an argument would come into play here. I'll play basketball or baseball on occasion but never watch the NBA or MLB, plenty of people are like that. I'm guessing someone tried to tell you that you have to watch the PGA Tour to be a fan of golf? They would be wrong.

I'm throwing all the possible things that could be said, it doesn't have to be one way or another..  I guess you are right that everyone has their own version of what is a fan of golf.. It was brought up for example that if someone only watches golf when a certain player is playing are they a fan of golf or are they a fan of that player?

Maybe the fact that I play golf is proof that I am a fan of golf that cancels out the fact that I don't watch golf?  There were some people going back and fourth about it, so I figured I would open up a thread for them to discuss if they wanted, and others to chime in if they feel inclined to do so that's all :)

I think virtually everyone who posts here is a fan of golf.

I am a fan of golf because I like golf. Seems pretty simple to me.

I love golf. I love playing golf, I love practicing, I love the challenge of the game and improving. I follow the news from various tours because I like to keep up to date with current events and I often research history or statistics about professional players. I do visit golf websites daily and not just because it's part of my responsibility here. I don't usually watch golf on TV. My TV is usually tuned to kids' channels nowadays, but even when I have golf on, it's usually just on in the background while I'm doing other things. I don't sit down to watch golf as an activity. I'd choose to watch golf over a lot of other television alternatives, though. I have also been to professional tournaments and plan to attend more in the future, but I'd rather be playing than watching. Am I a golf fan? I don't know. I guess you could say that I'm a golf fan, but not necessarily a fan of professional golf? I suppose I really don't care for the label, either way.

I play golf. I watch golf. I read about golf. I am a member of an excellent golf forum. I dream about golf. I practice my swing everyday, at the gym, in the hallway, at my desk.  Winter stinks because I can't play golf outside.  This makes me sad. So, yes, I am a golf fan.

Actually, I may be addicted.  Is this really a Golfers Anonymous thread in disguise?

That'd be like having an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in a liquor store, wouldn't it? ;-)

There's only one sport I make time for, one forum where I am a member / supporter.

Suppose you could say I'm a fan.

Yes it's Golf.

I am a fan of " me playing" golf. I am also a fan of being entertained by reading stuff about golf. The older the read, the better.

I am fan of owning decent golf equipment (tools) that makes the game enjoyable to play. I am a fan of every golf course I have played, or will play in the future. All golf courses have their place in anyone's game.

I am not a fan of watching golf on TV, or listening to the talking heads tell me what I just saw when I occasionally do watch a little golf on TV. I suppose I am not much a fan of the PGA, since the game those guys play, is nothing like I play. Their game is not even like anyone I meet on a golf course.

I usually don't wear 100% golf clothing when I play. Another knock against me for being a "true" fan of golf.  Give me a comfortable pair of walking shoes, some shorts with big pockets, and a collared shirt and I am good to go.

So I guess I should not be considered a  totally, 100% fan when it comes to golf. :surrender:

I rarely watch golf on TV on the weekends, and I won't even blink when offered the opportunity to play golf during the Masters or US Open. But I am a fan of golf because I flipping say so. Period.

That's funny. You seem to watch more golf than I do, but I do almost nothing on major weekends other than watch golf. I'd rather watch U.S. Open Sunday than play a round. Which is also weird, because you can play all year long. I'm a golf fan, but I may be less of a PGA Tour fan than I used to think I was. Maybe I'm not even a golf fan, but just someone who likes to play golf and talk about golf and who enjoys watching Tiger Woods play golf. What's that called?

I love watching golf and playing golf.  I'll watch PGA Tour, LPGA, Web.com, Big Break and today I even watched the Drive, Chip and Putt competition.  There are some 12 years olds that can out drive me, humbling.

If I can't play golf I'll watch it, if I can't watch it, I'll discuss it on here.  I like watching it more when Tiger is playing but still enjoy it when he's not.

I am a fan of golf because it is a truly unique sport. I like how it is the golfer against himself and the course. I like how golfers self regulate with the rules making it one of the few sports that you do not see rampant amount of players trying to cheat or skirt the rules.

I was introduced to it by my dad. So it has a family connection.

I like watching golf. I know how hard this game can be and I like to see what the highest level of play is.

Yea I am a fan of golf, playing and watching.

    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
    • Day 552, May 7, 2024 Played nine holes with @NatalieB with irons only from her tees. Didn't really finish out any holes, just hit the irons and approaches and some chips.
