WWYD is what would you do? I don't have much experience with tornados or such. I'd guess I'd look it up on the NWS/NOAA site and go from there.

Here if we have funnels the weather has gone to shit long before that happens. Dang sure wouldn't still be on the golf courses.

As usual Tiger seems only mildly concerned.

With all the tornados I have seen first hand, there was usually a big storm with with lightening preceding them.  If i saw that funnel cloud I would find some decent shelter, if for no other reason for the lightening that might be happening around it.  Best not to mess around much with Ma Nature.

I'd grad Toto and say, "We're not in Kansas anymore."

As long as there is no lightning, I'd play on. With everyone scurrying for cover, the course would open up. Maybe get a few more holes in. 20 years ago I played a tournament here in Florida during a tropical storm. We were on the side without the rain, so we played. Try hitting a ball into a 60 mph wind. :-)

I was hitting balls last week and a tornado formed directly down range (Palm Beach Gardens, Florida). At the time, I wasn't sure what it was… it never really funneled, but it looked odd in the distance. Whatever it was, it looked like it was several miles away. I wasn't 100% sure what it was, so I just kept hitting balls. Figured if it got any closer, I was near enough to my car that I could high-tail it out of there in time. So, I guess this proves my idiocy or sheep-like mentality in a potential crisis situation. At dinner a few hours later, the waitress asked me if I saw the tornado. I realized then I probably should've been more concerned… but damn it, I was being a stupid monkey and thinking only of my priority piece. Natural disasters were not on my mind at the time… we may need to amend the stupid monkey by-laws hehe.

But directly address the photo in the OP: if I was no where near my car -- like if I was standing in the middle of a golf course with only my two feet to make an escape -- I'd probably at least head back to the club house area where I could sprint to my car if needed.

If you live, or have lived, in tornado country...you see what is in that pic and not worry too much.  Now, when you see one that looks like it is a mile wide dark as crap and moving in your direction...you better hope that golf cart you are standing next to is very fast.

I agree. I don't know whether it's the way picture was taken, but it seems there is no storm in that picture. Usually with tornado you will get dark sky and nasty storm front. It doesn't seem like there is much clouds in that picture. Like I said it could just be the exposure was too long so it could've washed out the darkness in that picture.

Yep. I have a deep respect for lightning. I knew 3 people that got killed by lightning and actually saw another get killed. None were on a golf course. If there is lightning around, I head for cover. No questions. I'd forfeit a match instead of rolling the dice with lightning.

This is OT, but weather related. If you're at a range, where the base is concrete and the stations are covered, there is wiring running through the stations for lights and heat - not a range attached to a course w/grass, that's generally protected from lightning, yes?
