IMHO, when he was hot, it was his putter.  Seemed like he would make anything he looked at from 10' and beyond.  Close ones, not so much - just average.

Unless he can get that flat stick working again, I doubt he will be what he was.

This is incorrect. Spieth is doing just as fine with the putter. Check his strokes gained. His ballstriking has dropped a lot, in particular his approach play. He’s always been erratic off the tee, but his approach play isn’t giving him the same looks he capitalized on in his glory days.

It’s not  so much I’m blaming Cameron. I’m simply saying he’s not the solution.

You don't know that. 🙂

And if he’s telling JS the right stuff and three years of hacking persists then Cameron should tell him to go elsewhere.

Not at all accurate. These things don't have to be opinions these days. You can look up the actual stats. His full swing is bad right now. He's missing everywhere.

Maybe they’ve already been down that road, I don’t know. But I see both of you as being correct...if that’s possible

They have.

What people are failing to get is that perhaps:

  • Jordan played way above his level for awhile.
  • The expectations that he remain at that level cause a whole ton of stress.
  • He's not good at handling stress and at least playing to a normal level.

Maybe he is at his typical level now, and the pressure to play above his head again keeps him below his level.

I'm trying to find someone comparable to Jordan Spieth's career to this point (hot as the sun and then struggling). David Duvall? Johnny Miller?

It is. What in anything that I said runs counter to that? We're talking about ONE person.

Maybe his range swing isn't translating to the course?

Y'all saw that same thing happening with Tiger, too, for a year or so.

Or longer.

Here's one theory:  The human body replaces all its cells over 7 to 10 years.  Somehow as Jordan Spieth was replacing his cells some of Vinsk's cells got mixed in.  He is now Jordan Spinsk.

Another theory:  we all have good days and bad days on the course. Jordan is having good decades and bad decades. Like us, he may never get back to the good side of the equation.

Haven't really been following him or watched much golf the last few years but has he really fallen off that much?

Duvals issues were injury though, Jordan hasn’t had any of those.  I’d say more like Ian Baker Finch... just not quite a decline to that degree

2015 was his best year and the $12M he made on tour was peanuts to the Under Armor deal he inked along with other endorsements that year. You can’t discount what that kind of lifestyle change could do to a super young man.

have any of these other youngsters gone so far so fast or are they still hungry to get to where he was in 2015?

He played better in 2017, though.

I don’t think JS could grow a beard if he used fertilizer.....

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
