Take a guaranteed par over a doubtful bogey any day. Correct if the 5 footer coming back missed but if you sunk 50% of 5 footers then its all about risk/reward.

Definitely hole out from the fairway twice a year for the rest of my life. An eagle on a par four is -2. A hole in one is -2. Two awesome shots/year would be something to look forward to forever.😃

You know, immediately after I posted my previous post I started thinking I may have gotten it wrong, primarily because of the O-Value. I'll revisit that in a bit, though… Not that much lower.

I'll gladly take the 5 foot come-backer.  At least my first putt had a chance for a birdie.  And if I 3-putt, so be it.  I'd rather move to the next tee knowing I gave it a shot.  Nothing worse than leaving a birdie putt short, in the teeth of the hole.  It's soul crushing.

The scenario didn't really describe how long the birdie putt was, but it's unlikely that a putt 5' past the hole had a chance of falling at all. Capture speed matters.

Oh, it was a slick down hill 15 footer with a stimpmeter of 12. 😊  Though Bill, you do make a good point and I overlooked that.  One doesn't make many putts where you zip 5 feet beyond the hole, unless you're dead center or hit the pin.  I am now considering the 3 footer and a good soul-crushing.

I would take the 3 foot putt over a 5 foot everytime. Circumstances, and/or score wouldn't matter.  

Most likely I left the bird putt short because it was an up hill roll. That would probably mean the 5 footer is a down hill roll. Always better to putt up hill as far as I am concerned.

Depends on how long the birdie putt is, but I think in most scenarios, I would rather leave a birdie putt three feet short, because I feel better about sinking those. I hate it when I kill a putt several feet past the hole, no matter what I’m putting for.

I'm not sure why this is even a question.

Would you rather have a 3 foot par putt or a 5 foot par putt?  … Who's going to say they want the 5 footer?

Depends on whether the second putt is uphill or downhill, and what the greens are like. Generally I'd go for the shorter putt, but we've made other decisions playing in scrambles, and they've worked out more often than not.

Almost always the shorter putt.  However, I will preface that by saying in very specific conditions I might prefer the longer putt.  An uphill longer putt or a straight putt.  If you have a 3 foot downhill putt, or one that is going to break a foot, I might prefer the 5 foot putt

Would you rather show up to the course looking and feeling terrible, and shoot the best round of your life, or look and feel your best, but shoot the worst score of your life?

Personally, I would rather shoot my best score and look/feel terrible. I’m sure there are some days where you show up to the course looking like a mess. Nobody makes note of it and just assume you’re having a bad day.

It's going to be very difficult to shoot the worst score of my life, I am pretty sure I've already done that.....  LOL

Given these only 2 options, probably opt for the feeling like crap and shoot a great round.

I'd like to shoot the best round of my life. I'm sure after completing that round I'll feel a whole lot better.

      Day 335: range session before a round of golf tomorrow. Seeing where the ball is going. Hitting it solid, and hitting a pull draw. I can play it, but also found a decent feel to lessen it. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

      Day 51 (20 Jun 25) - Friday men’s group shootout….the old adage of “those who live by the sword, will die by the same” was lived out today as a variant  “those who scramble for par will die by the same scrambling”.  Struggled with the green side game today - up and downs were hard to come by despite the course playing well.  Will be focused on this area in coming drill sessions.

      Finally the backswing is getting consistency shorter. This is the best its looks in a while.  1. Swing is shorter 2. Arms and clubs don't carry well past when the torso stops turning.  It was feeling like my arms do nothing at all. Like the butt of the club stays pointed at my belly from A1 to A2. Then from A2 to A3, it's just a slight lift and turn to finish the backswing. Then a pause at A3.

      This was so good. For me, the best little bit was the visualization of the club under Wyndham's feet when asking him which direction he feels pressure and weight shift (around 30 minutes in). Might try out the right leg back drills to help post up on the left leg earlier.
