He played a couple of years in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.  And I think he was wearing his exciting grey hoodie.

Hoodies are fashionable among young people. I’m not a fan for golf however. They serve no function.

I don’t think attire is an issue with attracting people to the sport though, it certainly never crossed my mind before I played golf, expense or worrying about looking useless were far higher concerns

I don’t mind them at all. Of course they’d be great to help McCarron and Langer hide their anchoring even better.....

Clothes normally have two primary functions.

1. Keep your warm and protected from the elements

2. Prevent other people from having to see your bits and pieces.

Baring some sort of obscene message or image on an article of clothing, I don't care.

Also, I don't think many of us pick out a new golf shirt without thinking... "Hmmm, I'll look good in this purple and pink one."

I've seen more than a few PGA Tour golfers wear hoodies on their Instagram. They're not playing during a tournament, but probably at a club with a dress code.

Natural progression of golf fashion I suppose. In the 90's it was baggy pants and over-sized sweaters, now its slim fit. Rope brimmed hats have made a comeback. So a hoodie might be the next thing. I don't care for it, to me its not golf. But what do I know? Oh and while we are on it, tuck your shirt in. Sam did it best.

"Tuck your shirt in".  That could be a whole thread.  Or maybe it already is...

As many of you may or may not remember from a previous dress code thread. I'm actually the president of the anti-white-belt-society. So, go ahead and wear a hoodie. But if you are wearing a white belt you'd better be in the navy, or selling ice cream.

As an eighth grade teacher in a school that does not allow hoodies up, which, of course means I am CONSTANTLY telling people to take their hoods off, I have to say that I HATE hoodies.

Retail getting the same way, i see signs that hoodies must be down while in the store.

I read a golf fashion article a few years ago and it said if your age or waistline is over 40 then don't wear a white belt.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
