GHIN Advanced Stats

  1. 1. Do you use the advanced stats (putts, GIR, fairways hit) with the GHIN hole-by-hole entry?

For the first time in a loooong time, I have a GHIN number (I was disappointed my old number was not still available. I still remember it, and it was only six digits).

Anyway, I'm entering hole-by-hole scores with the "advanced stats." Now, let's be real: calling them that is a bit silly, as it's just fairways, greens, and putts. Counting stats. But still, it's something.

One suggestion I'm passing up the flagpole: auto-select the GIR stat. Pre-select the checkbox for a GIR if the player gets:

  • An albatross or eagle.
  • A birdie with one putt.
  • A par with two putts.
  • A bogey with three putts (and a double with four).

Pre-select the red X if the player gets anything but the above. The player can always change it, but this would basically make it so they almost never have to.

I always used to track this on my scorecard before it was available on the GHIN app, so I am sure once I get out and play this year that I will take advantage of the option to track/store my stats electronically and reference them after the fact.

Makes sense that it should auto calculate GIR. I have not used the GHIN app yet, as the course that had the men's association that I planned on joining closed, but I've never really heard good things about it. Just a score, putt, and FW checkbox should get all the traditional stats and it seems silly that they wouldn't figure that out.

You just enter it manually right now. I agree they should add it, but this is the first year for WHS so maybe they’re content it works.

Right now I use my shotscope watch for stat stuff, keep score on paper because I don’t trust the shot detection 100% (it always errs toward the lower score), and only enter a score when reporting rounds. It’s probably too much to expect, but it would be nice if the device (watch, or whatever a golfer happens to be using) and GHIN could interface somehow to streamline data entry.

I don’t use the advanced stats. So far this year I’ve only played four rounds on three courses and only one of the courses even allows me to enter hole-by-hole scores.

I use The Grint and I put in my score and stats as I play most of the time.

I post total score only.

I really don't care how many fairways I hit, I can birdie or par a hole from the rough. Number of putts?, Today, it could be 36, tomorrow it might be 24, and the following day it could be 40. I guess the only thing that would tell me is I'm a very inconsistent putter.

I don't have a GHIN bc I don't see the need for one but if I did I'd keep the advanced stats since I already do.

Even if the data is shallow, it’s data all the same.

My gps app does all that . I manually enter as I score each hole. I’m not really interested in entering that info again for GHIN tracking

FWIW my post was just in general, not directed at anyone.

Is it worth the time to put in the stats to get this?

image.png

For me, sure, partly because I can enter the stats really quickly and I enjoy doing it. (That's why in my OP I made a suggestion regarding speeding that up with auto-GIR determination. Even lower barrier that way.)

That's interesting. Before I started using a Garmin S20 watch, and later switched to Shotscope watch, I used Golfshot app on my iPhone, at least I think that's what I was using. I liked the basic tracking that the app did, but didn't like having to constantly take my phone out of my pocket between shots though. Does Golfshot transfer the stats to GHIN too?

It would be nice if the handicap recording organizations could provide an interface with all of the various trackers/apps, watches, phones, etc. though. For example, after I edit my scores in the Shotscope web interface (or Game Golf, Arrcos, whatever), it would be cool if there were a submit to GHIN button that I could click.

    • Here is one of my swings where I made what felt like good contact. This isn’t a full speed swing but maybe it should be because a big fault of mine is over swinging. So what im working on is, from A4 my first move has been hands going out toward the ball. This seems to have caused tons of inconsistencies for years. I’ve just made it work with decent hand eye coordination, I guess. Like I said previously, the swing thought/feel is from A4, the lead arm/hands drop down and back to start. Then I feel like my hands get as close to my quads as possible. I’ve never come close to this because my brain never believed contact could be made from there.   Also, this all began when I decided to get the early extension and flipping out. Overall goal is a consistent swing and ball flight and get into some tournament play and get competitive in my club championship.  Hope I get this right, I haven’t done it in a while.        Disregard the pants…I got hot in the garage..😀 I also thought I clicked the audio off on the video but obviously did not.
