I do not normally bet on sports but decided to take a few bets on Dustin Johnson beating both Adam Scott and Bubba Watson in the first round.  It is early but through 5 Dustin is +1, Scott -1 and Bubba Even.  Can't wait until 2pm Golf Channel begins coverage.

The event where:

  • One of the shortest par fours on the Tour is one of the most interesting.
  • There's a par three with a bunker in the middle of the green.
  • There's a split fairway (left/right).
  • Adam Scott unofficially won a PGA Tour event.

Seems like these lads have trouble hitting a nice gentle cut with a 3 wood on #10

Also the event where:

  • They have what I imagine must be the shortest par 5 on tour these days at 505 yards.  And unless they have plans to add a tee in the bar or on the roof, its not getting any longer any time soon.
  • They have kikuyu grass - not sure if anybody knew that because they never mention it on tv. 😉
  • Tiger has never won it.  (finished 2nd a couple times)
  • One of those was in 1998 when it was NOT at Riviera (because they were preparing for the Senior PGA), but rather up north at Valencia CC where Tiger lost in a playoff to Billy Mayfair.
  • I was in the area once and accidentally drove my car onto this golf course.  (If you look at google maps, there is a street that just dead ends right near the middle of the first fairway and the gate was open.  Oops. )
  • Oh, and somewhere on this course is likely where the real killer was hiding back in 94/95 ... or at least that's where OJ thought he was hiding. 🙂

And you left off the 60-foot drop from the tee to the fairway, which makes it play even shorter. I think Bryson hit an iron off the tee and then an 8I. It's a par 70 course, let's be honest.

I enjoyed seeing that Tae Hoon Kim went birdie, eagle, eagle and won a new car with the hole in one on the 3rd, I think it was.

I also got a laugh out of the announcers arguing about whether or not a "square foot" could be round. Good grief!

Just watching it a little bit from today's DVR.  They've mentioned it 3 times (that I've noticed) in the first hour.

An ace on the third hole at Riviera would be something, that's for sure.  Andrew Magee would have to present the award.

For the second year in a row, I'm not volunteering at the event.  This isn't in protest or anything, it's just that I moved away -- I used to live a lot closer to this event.  Of course, the years I volunteered at it, I was often worked admissions and will call, which I would guess is less busy this year than in the past.

On PGA Tour Live they mentioned it at least once during every shot.

Agreed.  It’s a par 70.  And a legit one at that.  Last couple winning scores would’ve been -7 or -8.  They wouldn’t need to trick this course out much at all to host a us open or pga if they so desired.

I'm looking at this tournament a little different since I am putting some wagers out that I do not normally do and it is adding to the fun and anticipation.  Yesterday I won my 2 bets on Dustin and my bet that Jordan makes the cut looks good.  Today I took a more aggressive bet and need Adam Scott to shoot a good round, at least good compared to DJ,  Rahm, Morikawa, Cantlay & Bubba.

It is early but Jordan is looking good at -2 through 5.  It will be interesting to see of Sam Burns can keep up his pace.  I don't know much about Sam but he has a nice lead, but holding it will be the key.  There is a lot of golf left.

If Dottie mentions the pull of the ocean one more time, I will call my friends in LA and have them toss her off the Santa Monica Pier.

She just wouldn't let that comment go.   She went on and on to the point I became irritated by her comments.   The broadcast is very boring

    • Day 203 (21 Nov 24) - Weekly nine hole round with my good friend.  Played it as a 7 club challenge (7w, 5h, 7i, 9i, GW, LW, putter).  As we were playing up a set of tees, no super loss of distance off the tee.  Had some good looks at birdie, failed to convert.  These sessions with fewer clubs really helps with course management.
    • Tell me about it - shouldn’t have second guessed…
    • My wife is going to drag me to see Wicked.   She is very excited to see it.   We saw the musical while in Chicago and thought it was very good.  I'm not usually a fan of musicals but I'm looking forward to seeing this.   Gladiator 2 does look good.   I'm going to go back and watch the original Gladiator before going to the theater.
    • MSN Glover expressed his dissatisfaction with what he termed as 'cool kid meetings' between Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Tiger Woods and other high-profile golfers. "I think it's terrible," he stated. "And then hiding behind pace of play, I think, challenges our intelligence. They think we're stupid.     "Don't cut fields because it's a pace of play issue. Tell us to play faster, or just say you're trying to appease six guys and make them happy so they don't go somewhere else and play golf." Fitzpatrick joined the conversation on X (formerly Twitter), with the 30-year-old echoing Glover's sentiments regarding the PGA Tour changes. "He's so right," Fitzpatrick posted. "Pathetic that pace of play is spoken about every year and nothing ever gets done."     I agree. Instead of  penalizing  players for  turtle  play they appease the  slow jerks  by  cutting the  fields. They will play even slower  knowing they will NEVER be  penalized.
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 3 years  My current handicap index or average score is: 1.5 My typical ball flight is: neutral /slight draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: hook   Looking for some advice please folks. Started golfing three years ago and got hooked. Had some early lessons and was a slicer etc.  I used to have a severe inside takeaway and through working hard to fix as ever (this game…) it’s now gone too far the other way where I take it back way outside.  i think it looks really bad and have gotten a lesson last year where we tried to competely reset the swing and it ruined things for months as I couldn’t get it to stick (my fault).    anyway do I need to fix this? I hit it reasonably solid but don’t know what else I’m looking at or need to clean up. All opinions welcomed!  Videos:
