Similar to the Video Game thread, this will be a board game thread. 

I am a huge board game fan. I have over 25 board games. 

A few of my favorites are...

1. Terraforming Mars
2. Settlers of Catan
3. Lords of Waterdeep
4. Dead of Winter 

For those who like board games, what are some of your favorites.

Settlers of Catan is probably my favorite of all time, but I haven’t played too many board games in recent years. These days my board game companions are my kids so the games have to be suited to their level. I’ve read good things about Stuffed Fables and I’m thinking about getting it.

Sequence, Cribbage, Scrabble, Backgammon, Mah Jong, Trouble, Sorry, Bananagrams, Othello are ones my wife and I play a lot. We have Clue and a couple of others that are in the rotation too.

We also like card games like Mille Bourne and Play 9, which is a fun golf card game. We used to play 99 with the kids on vacation to keep the entertained at restaurants. 

Cards Against Humanity is an adult version of Apples to Apples which is hilarious and not for kids!

I don't play too many board games but I do enjoy playing cribbage.

Our Meetup group uses Board Game Arena to play online games together.   We add discord and it's fun.

The various Catan games are high on my list.  I have a mixed-language copy of Starfarers of Catan -- a German copy of the original four-player (from before one could purchase it in English) and an English-language 5-6 player expansion.

I've been playing Gloomhaven with some friends every-other week.  Pre-pandemic we played sporadically, then in about May we went to playing online every-other-week.

Back in the day I really liked Axis/Allies and Shogun (sometimes marketed as Samurai Swords).  I don't know where my copy of the former is.  The latter I haven't played in over a decade anyway, and the latter the same, except a girlfriend (now ex, not because of this) wanted to play but she got bored during setup.

In college I played a lot of Munchkin and Bang! too.  Haven't played those since though.

I did play Bridge once upon a time.  I think I was even ranked as high as junior master (this only sounds impressive if you don't play bridge) at one point.  I haven't played in a decade.

I like the card game, Exploding Kittens.

When on trips we take a magnetic Backgammon we can play on planes and train. We took the Amtrack from Michigan to Chicago, then on to San Francisco a year ago and played it on the train.  One of my favs as a kid was Chutes and Ladders.

I second Exploding Kittens as a great game.   Unstable Unicorns is also a good one.

monopoly has always been my go to, but too many people I play with do “interest free bank loans”

Some of the expansion packs that have been released are a little absurd though. I think the original game was fine as is.

The one with the Cat Crown has led to a lot of fun with us.   I think it’s best to swap them in and out.   My kids want to play with them all in at the same time and that’s a long game…

Trying to play with all the expansion packs is nuts. We did it a few times, but the games lasted over an hour so we use one at a time now. Imploding Kittens is my kids' favorite.

I'm not sure it qualifies as a board game, but I played a deck building game (online) with some friends last week called Dominion.  It was fun, and by the name I thought it was a board game I had played in high school but I cannot for the life of me figure out what I was thinking of.  It certainly wasn't that game.

Meanwhile my semi-recently acquired copy of The Fast and the Furious: Highway Heist sits with my older board games, yet to be played.  Hopefully that can change soon.

I played Kingdomino with some friends last week. The games are pretty quick and kids can pick it up fairly easily.

      It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…

      I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
