It was one of those, for me, that you smack your head over. Been sitting on it too long.

I'm glad I got it there because I couldn't have thought of another word that fit those letters, unless it was a British word I didn't know.

My new favorite starting word is RAISE.  I was using AISLE but the R is more common than the L...or so it seems.  If I don't get any vowel hits from RAISE I type YOUTH next.  That covers all the vowels in two guesses.

In der bag:
Cleveland Hi-Bore driver, Maltby 5 wood, Maltby hybrid, Maltby irons and wedges (23 to 50) Vokey 59/07, Cleveland Niblick (LH-42), and a Maltby mallet putter.                                                                                                                                                 "When the going gets tough...it's tough to get going."

I've used salet as my starting word the past few days. Raise is a good one, too, though.

Thought this was an interesting twitter account to follow, if you are interested:

My preferred start is "Learn" followed by "Moist." Knocks out 10 very common letters. Sometimes the first word sets you on a different path, of course. But I've been comfortably in that 3-5 guess range since adopting that starting strategy.
