It is well known that burying rubber preserves it. In my other hobby (model airplanes) there is a class of model called F1D. They're powered by a very thinly sliced rubber band, and weigh about 1 gram for a model of about a meter span. They're like a floating soap bubble and the world record is something like 40 minutes. They fly them in huge indoor venues - blimp hangars, covered (American) football stadiums and the like. I used to live within a hundred miles of a several-times world champion (Jim Richmond). One secret to his success was that he had a batch of rubber made by Pirelli in the 1970s which was better than any other until they came out with Tan II in the 1990s. This rubber - several pounds of it - was buried in sealed porcelain jars in his back yard, if the tales are true.

I've mentioned before that I play 3-cushion billiards, but I do not think one has to play the game to be amazed at what this guy can do with a cue stick.  This is called artistic billiards and there are actually competitions in Europe at this.  Not the trick shots with the pool balls on the table, most of those are old - you can find versions of some of them.

I also like the melding of the shots with the music.  The music really seems to fit.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Is this just greenwashing, or is there actually a real environmental benefit? And honestly, does it even perform as well as traditional leather?
