I have the little Aimpoint circular bubble level, and to be honest, never use it anymore.  Most greens around here are close to a 9, so I just go in assuming as much until I find that they seem a tad fast or slow, then adjust accordingly.

I've used the "8" charts, maybe 3 or 4 times, and I've used the "10" charts 3 or 4 times as well.  I used the "11" charts once in a tournament last year and have never used the "12's."

I have used the 11 or the 12 pretty much every time at my new home course during the summer(not the morning course).  It can be fun to watch people putt on them for the first time.  They were rolling around 10-11 yesterday as we are getting into the fall.  I was leaving everything short. When they are fast in the summer, it is ridiculous though.

I do the same pretty much, I just head out on the course and adjust as needed.  I start at 9 for most courses as well.

So how much different are the greens we played yesterday (10 or 11) to the greens at ironwood when you play it in the morning?

Ironwood is around a 8 to 9 in the morning.

I feel kind of awkward putting the Husky in my back pocket while on the green during a round. :-P

Well you're not supposed to use it during a round anyway, so problem solved? I just keep mine in my golf bag and take it out on the practice green before the round. A few minutes to calibrate and I'm good to go.

True. I was thinking of using it during practice rounds. Put it on places on the green I've always wondered about. If I were caddying for Adam Scott or similar, that's what I'd do before the tournament starts. If that's legal?

Sure, if it's a practice round. If you're not posting your scores for handicap purposes, then the rules are irrelevant.

I agree completely. The bubble is too small to be useful. I start with 9 and go from there.

The bubble's great for AimPoint MidPoint reads. It fits in your pocket, too.

The level is all you need for Express. The bubble, specifically does NOT work at all for Express.

You can't really learn it from a video. But you knew that.

I've learned a lot of things from videos and books and learning aimpoint express from either would be possible . I think the creator and teachers would love people to believe this but it's just not true! If it wasn't true why is the method such a big secret ! Answer , because Express can be learned from a Dvd or book , that's why its protected like a magicians secret.

It's really not a secret ... just take a class and learn it.  You can learn the gist of it from a book or DVD, sure, but you're not going to learn how to put it into practice.  And that is what matters.

I don't agree. If it could be learned from a DvD or book, they'd sell it in either of those media. They'd be able to reach a broader audience that way and probably make a heck of a lot of money doing it.

I've taken the Express class twice. The first time, I thought, "this is a piece of cake, I've got this." Then I took it again and it made so much more sense. I don't think I could have learned it from a DvD or a book, and I consider myself a pretty good learner.

Well I disagree that this can't be learned using a Dvd or a book. I learned how to set up and maintain a salt water reef tank by reading books on the subject. Aimpoint express is no exception, it can be learned through books or Dvd's ,just like anything else. I'm not going to change your mind and your not going to change mine, so let's just leave it at that.

Okay.

Except to add this: it's easier, faster, and better to learn it in person for the vast majority of people, IMO.

Now we can move on. Great. Cool.

In what could be the underdog story of the year, I successfully convinced my fiancee that "borrowing" $200 from the wedding fund to attend a green reading class on her birthday was a good idea.

Supporting your passion - sounds like a keeper. Congrats!

I agree 100% and I have no regrets about taking an Aimpoint Express class. Just learning to read putts with my feet has improved my putting a ton! Learning to use my feet was worth the price of admission !

Is it worthwhile to take an Aimpoint class during the winter (Michigan)?   I'm afraid if I took a class during the winter months that I'd forget everything I learned before I got a chance to get outside and play again in the spring.

Unless there was an indoor place you could practice, I would take it in the spring.  I took it in April 2012.  It take a few practice sessions on your own to dial in your technique.  Plus, you will be aching to use it on the course.

    • Why wouldn't it have? It's not like you were playing it as a 145yd par 5 and made a 2 or something.  Or not like it was playing 50yds to a temporary green or something either.

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
