I can appreciate this in some ways but would you buy and use Bubba's pink driver?

What is your take? I think I would go with a normal painted one myself...

why the heck not?  It wouldn't make you any less of a man.  I just wouldn't buy it because I don't like PING stuff.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

i would play it.  I actually found a pink hello kitty golf ball on the course and decided what the hell I'll play it.  I made straight 8 pars with it then went eagle, eagle, par, eagle and finally lost it on 17.  I never looked for a golf ball so long in my life.  Wish they made pink prov1s lol.

I would play it. Nothing wrong with playing for a cause. Look at Bubba. He has no problem playing an all pink club. But he dose back it up with his monster drives.

I'm not left-handed. :-)

If I wanted a G20 I'd buy it. Or not. It wouldn't really matter to me.

I think with the charity slant he just gets away with it. Did it have to be pink though. If he had chosen all green or red or something I think he would have attracted the same publicity for the charity at least. Anyone - other than Bubba with his good cause - would attract undesired attention wielding a driver with a shocking pink club head and shaft. If you are an attention seeker and don't mind be called derogatory names by everyone that sees you with such a pathetic statement on the tee, good luck to you!

There is no shame in donating to a worthy cause, but I would never use a pink driver.  I don't even like the white Taylor Made drivers........LOL

Well Patrick, I don't know where you've been but the "pink" color is part of the breast cancer staple associated with Susan G. Komen. So when Ping agreed to fork out 300 bux for each one of Bubbas 300+ drives they decided to paint the driver pink to attract attention to the breast cancer foundation, not to Bubba per-say

I'd send my money directly to the charity before using that monstrosity.

Money for breast cancer research is pathetic?  You do know his wife is a breast cancer survivor, right?

Brandon

Money for breast cancer research is pathetic?  You do know his wife is a breast cancer survivor, right?
I have been misunderstood and in Bubba's position, I would have insisted on another colour. I don't think the cause is pathetic, I think the driver looks pathetic. I didn't know about the cause until now and if I had seen someone on a golf course today with one I would have thought he was pathetic. I watched the whole of the Masters and I believe the British commentators, Alliss and co., were also unaware of this cause as I didn't hear them mentioning it. On a similar vein to Brandon, I would happily offer ping an extra $100 towards the charity if they would supply me with an ordinary colour. Don't tell me they are going to be turning up on courses for the next few months or so. Shit!

Flashy colors aren't really my thing so I personally wouldn't buy it but I like the fact that it is for a good cause.

Ping is charging 430 bucks for the driver yet only donating 5 % .  You can buy a regular g20 for 300 bucks so not really a big fan of ping acting like they are really helping a charity out here.

What's the truth here? An earlier post claims that Ping is donating something substantial for every pink driver sold. If what you say is true, they are really using the cause to promote sales of the driver. Now that is pathetic and sending well intentioned golfers on to the course looking like total prats/dorks. I think they are also opening the floodgates for ludicrous gestures in the future in the name of good causes.

If I wanted to own Bubba's driver I'd buy it and keep it as a collectors item, but if my real interest was his charity I'd send the full amount to the charity.  IMO 5% is way too low for Ping to donate to his charity and they appear very greedy.  If Ping was serious about supporting Bubba's charity they'd donate the full amount except for their cost which is likely about $100.

5% ($21.50) makes it appear like it's a cheap marketing ploy to sell more drivers especially since they are charging a $130 premium for them.

If I'm not mistaken he's not playing for breast cancer, he's playing for a children's cancer charity. If so, the pink is confusing.

In my Bag (work in progress):

Driver: TaylorMade 10.5* R11, Regular Shaft
3W: TaylorMade Burner 15*

3Hy: Nike SQ Sumo Hybrid
Irons: 2005 TaylorMade Rac OS, 4-AW

Wedge: Cleveland CG14 56*, old dingy 64* wedge that I have no business using

Putter: Odyssey White Hot Tour Putter or a Cleveland Classic Anser-Style

Kicks: Footjoy E-Comforts

Ball: Used Titleist DT Solos.

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
