evolvr lessons

I couldnt get the link to work.  Right now the only cameras I have are both 30 fps, that means I am going to have to buy a new one in order to do evolvr.  Are they all going to cost me $200 or more, or is there a camera that will work good that can be had for cheaper?  Thanks

I use a galaxy tab to film my swing which I believe is 30fps. And although not great, its good enough to get feedback from evolvr. At 30fps It will miss parts of the downswing but you get a good idea of where you're at from the frames before and after the position you want. In other words 30fps is good enough to benefit from evolvr... but obviously the higher the fps the better as you will see more accurately where you are at at certain points of the swing. I'd recommend evolvr to anyone!

Im sold.  I am going to try it at some point.  The only thing that stinks is I have to move my set up in my garage from stall 3 to stall 2, to get a good face on look.  Hopefully I get to it this week.  I know it wont hurt.  Thanks

Bumping this thread up because we're in single digits in Albany NY and there's supposed to be a window on Saturday morning where it's supposed to be in the 40's-50's before it rains in the afternoon so I'm hoping to videotape my swing and sign up for an Evolvr account.

A quick question; once I send in a video and get a response back, is there a number of sessions of practice one should have before sending in another video or is it arbitrary? With it being winter, I doubt I'll be able to hit balls for an hour a day everyday with my net so was just curious if there's some schedule that the instructors suggest following.

I think it depends in part on what piece of the swing the instructor wants to work on, and what drills/instruction you need to follow (and how easy/difficult that may be).

I signed up a couple months ago, and am hoping to use this winter to make some improvements.  In the lessons, I have been told what to do daily (for a reasonably short period of time each day).  From the few lessons I've had, most of the practice can be done indoors daily (carefully), then working it into the full swing as the weather has allowed me to get outdoors (different part of the country than you).  I posted my next video(s) when I felt I had pretty much accomplished it as well as I could or when I needed a check because I thought I wasn't doing it correctly (didn't want to practice the wrong motion).

I've only been a student with them for a couple months so far, but that's been my experience. It's worked out well.  I preferred to start working with them in the off-season (hopefully better by the time spring rolls around).

Totally arbitrary. You send in another video when you think you're ready for the next piece or when you're stuck. I'm currently on a pace of about one video every 5 weeks or so, because I'm working on (for me) a tough piece.

Yeah well said Drew.  I usually advises guys to send in videos when they see the picture change for the better, are stuck or want some "supervised" practice.  Sending in a video of yourself practicing a drill or slow swing to clarify if you're not sure what the instructor is asking.  Ex: "I'm working on feeling my right hip stretch more, am I demonstrating this right?"

Really no point to sending in a video once a week or expecting something new to work on every time you submit a video.

I think at times I like things regimented and like being on a schedule but this is probably not an endeavor where one could really be like that as everyone learns at a different rate.

Just wondering who has used it? and thoughts on it.

Also wondering if I were to join are the vids on my swing thread good enough for them to use? Because I cant film at my local range so it would be hard for me to get other vids other then the inside ones?

I don't think they will be of much help to you with those videos.  You need to be able to provide them with videos from good angles of real swings.  I only ever go the range by myself and I have no trouble taking my own videos there.  All you need is a tripod if you have a regular camera, or if you are using a smartphone, get something like this: http://www.protosports.com/

And if the range doesn't allow for face-on views because of those stall dividers, you can always take video on the course too.

Also, the instructors are fantastic, and if you take their advice and practice it properly, you will get better.

Yeah there are range dividers and pretty hard to get a decent angle at all at the range. The vids at home are really only way I can consistently get decent looking vids as I can't get to the range that often either. :(

Can you find a course nearby with a decent practice facility?  I never go to a dedicated driving range, but rather to a nearby course.  Grab a spot at one end and you should have plenty of room to set up.

An added benefit is that most people there will just be warming up prior to their round, so a spot appropriate for your practice needs usually comes available pretty quickly.

+1 on this.  Also, if you set up a net and mat in your yard, you can film there.  I have done that with Evolvr as well.

Sorry for bring an old thread up, but I could not find a better thread to ask ... I am the only one that gets excited about getting your feedback? I have an internal timer that says your feed back should be ready, and I check my email all day waiting for it!
