As someone has said before, the camera angle from the blimp is deceiving as it is not directly over the hole.

If the blimp was positioned left of the hole, it would look like the ball was on the fairway until the last second.

Bottom line: I would trust his playing partner (Casey) and his caddy more than anything.

He turns away and then the camera cuts away, so you don't know if he turned back. I do that all the time - look away in disgust but then remember to look back so I can see where the ball ends up.

Even if he didn't see it, maybe that's why he asked the others for their take on where he should drop.

All the camera angles are off, but it did seem that the commentators initially backed up that the ball didn't cross the h20 hazard. Even looking at google map of the hole, it really doesn't seem like the ball had a chance of carrying over any land. Very suspicious drop. Thanks for providing the yahoo link.

Rick you are in the Army no? It sure seems like we pay you a lot to be on youtube and the forum all day.

I saw the video where SG was asked about the shot but it didn't seem like he was whinning too much.

Can we get a "stickie" called "Tiger trolls and haters" so the mods can just throw stupid comments in there and they can have their place on the site to shit the bed?

Army, no, you're mistaken.

Tiger hater - still mistaken.

I was not talking about you being a tiger hater. You are merely a devil's advocate at times.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

This from a guy who was the Scorer on Thursday with Tiger's group, demonstrating the chaos that surrounds Tiger:

I was the walking scorer with Tiger's group on Thursday. It was Tiger, Kuchar, and Snedeker. Normally, inside the ropes there would be the three players with caddies, myself, and the standard bearer. Thursday there must have been 50 people inside the ropes in addition to the usual. We had three TV cameras with another person holding an antenna, a whole bunch of still photographers, two "observers" and untold number of "media" badge wearers. Also, we had Roger Maltbie and a reporter from XM radio. It was so crowded there were many times when I only knew a shot was hit when I heard the sound. I had to scramble to find a position to watch shots since I have to record the lie from which they play.

I suspect that on Saturday, the number of people inside the ropes was similar or greater. Given that, it is entirely possible one of those people may have told him Sergio had already hit. Tiger may have interpreted that to be from one of the volunteer marshals. What the marshal said is correct. We are firmly directed to not speak to a player unless they speak to us. If we have a question, we speak to the caddie. I am very disappointed in the disparaging remark about character. IMO he had no basis to make that comment, only to state it was not a marshal who told Tiger Sergio had hit.

Good info.  I would have imagined following Tiger's group would be something like this, but it's nice to get a first-hand account.  No wonder so many guys folded when playing with him on the Sunday of a major if they had never experienced something like that before.

Definitely a spot-on comment about devil's advocate.

It looked to me that he hushed the crowd right after Sergio hit.  As if he heard the club hit the ball, realized Sergio was hitting, and shushed the crowd.

Sergio is a grown ass man.  He isn't a child.  Actually in fact, he is a tour veteran with a level of status that should've given him the ability to approach Tiger and express his feelings on what happened.  It's not like he's a scared rookie.

This is known as passive aggressive behavior.

The only commentator that was actually there said the drop was fine.  You DO realize that Johnny and Nantz were nowhere near the 14th tee - they were watching on TV just like the rest of us.

Definitely a spot-on comment about devil's advocate.

The thing about being  devil's advocate is you might just end up on the same place the devil resides.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Is this still going on?  We get it, he cheated.  Great.  Next.

Pulling a 5 wood is cheating? At worst it is gamesmanship and that is only if you give Tiger zero benefit of the doubt, which I assume is the case. Or are you talking about the drop? The drop that was verified and approved by his competitor, as in "the guy playing AGAINST him", not his caddy, not his mom, not his BFF, his competitor. And as someone else pointed out, if your going to cheat and take an inappropriate drop would you really choose to drop it in the junk with a horrible lie and awkward stance, seriously, did you see the shot he had to hit from there?

This is the first time I've heard about a situation like this with Tiger. I think we can safely say he did not pull that club at that time to get the crowd excited and disturb Sergio's shot.

An interesting spin on this story from one of the British broadsheet (i.e. better quality) newspapers:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/golf/tigerwoods/10056330/Tiger-Woods-accused-of-lying-by-Players-Championship-marshal-in-his-spat-with-Sergio-Garcia.html

I suppose one way to fan the flames of this story is to include a, "Woods called a liar by the marshal" type headline, further exacerbated by the additional information that the marshal concerned is a respected former military man.

Whether the "I listened to the marshal" part of Tiger's story has any relevance to the actual outcome is highly debatable, I imagine; but surely no-one likes being called a liar? Perhaps he will want to clarify his comments?

Ok, so instead of lying, he spun the truth to fit the facts to make him look like he was in the Ok and sergio wasn't. Still doesn't excuse Tiger for not being aware of the players around him in his own group, with is 101 etiquette of golf.

Tell you what.  Why don't you try navigating the course with an entourage of about 50 people following you inside the ropes, then have to be thinking about a shot from several yards into the trees out of a U shaped bay in the gallery where you can't even see the other player.  Then have one of that retinue (just because it may not have been a marshal doesn't mean that it didn't happen) say to another something to the effect that Sergio had already hit.  Then, and only then, did Tiger reach for a club.  That's being just about as aware as you can be under the circumstances.  Sergio is at least as much at fault, if not more so, for not backing off as soon as the murmur began (before he had started his backswing).  He really has no one to blame for himself.

I also don't know where you get the spin idea either.  Sergio jabbed, Tiger blocked, yada, yada yada.  You need to put your reality glasses on.   And don't get me wrong, I'd be defending Sergio just as strongly if it had been the other way around.

    • Yep. It’s easy to get distracted during the day and hardly drink any water. Our bodies do not have a good systems to warn us early enough. Some tips I like. Drink 16+ ounces of water when you wake up. The body can lose 1-2 lbs of water weight overnight. You are already in the red. If you know you are going to work out, or even walking 9 holes of golf. Drink water before hand and during the exertion. I was curious once, I did a 40 ish minute workout and I lost about 5 lbs of water weight. That is 80 ounces of water I need to replenish. Now I try to drink 24-36 ounces beforehand.  Aim for half an ounce of fluid, per pound of bodyweight, per day. Note, this is baseline not taking into account exercise or strenuous activity. Also, if you eat non processed foods, you can get a good amount through diet. If you eat processed foods, you need to drink more during the day.
    • Anyone in the group play tennis and interested in playing some tennis this weekend while we are away on recreation?  @StuM I messaged you about hotel accommodations please let me know what you can do.
    • That's kind of what I thought.  The ap maybe fine, but Shotscope is so inexpensive and works really well. I'm surprised more golfers don't use it.
    • Me too. I tend to drink no less than 64 oz in the winter time. In the summer at least twice that.  I'm prone to cramping and cramping sucks. So, I drink plenty of water. BTW - I've become increasingly prone to cramping as I've aged. Aging sucks also.    Huh?  I'd love to know where you got this information. Did you ask your dog?  I'm not sure if I like or dislike the taste of water. It's water. It's one of the things that makes life on Earth possible.
