Turns out the more severe forecasts were the more accurate ones.  We have about a foot of snow, the roads are closed, and it ain't stopping for a while.  Hope everyone is home, warm, and safe.

Incidentally, anyone want to buy a car?  May have to wait a while to take a test drive...

Hey guys!

Been a longggg time since I've been around, but I'm making a return to TST and golf (finally!). The Winter has been brutal here in NE Ohio and the upcoming blizzard is going to further delay my return to the course after a long hiatus. I haven't played much in the last 2 years since XLIF surgery, but I plan to play 2-3 times a week this season. The weather cannot break soon enough and the driving range is just not doing it for me anymore!

Don't know about you, but where I live we got about 2.5" so far (Tuesday). And the forecasters made it sound like the end of the world was coming! I can't wait till some real golf weather comes around. But tomorrow I think I'll head to the golf dome, swing a few sticks, and then grab a spaghetti and meatball dinner and a glass of red wine on the way home! I gotta get out. Cabin fever is squeezing my brain!

I was going to say you could borrow mine, but then, mine are blue!

We've had a few weeks of mild weather here in KC........already plenty of 70 degree days.   It's been freezing and we had a dusting of snow/ice on the roads today and people forget how to drive.  Going into the office today.....I passed no less than 5 accidents.  JHChrist people....pay attention and get your heads out of your BUTT!!!!    This isn't the first time you've driven on slick roadways!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had less than predicted, about a foot, but it was heavy and wet. It took us 2.5 hours to clear the driveway and sidewalk. It then rained then froze overnight. Brutal.

There are no real warm days in the 10 day forecast either. So the melt off is going to be slow.

Roads are bad around here. Be safe.

Woof.  Ours is that light, fluffy stuff.  Fairly easy to clear the driveway (though right at the road was really bad) but terrible for a snowball fight.

I'd take 2 feet of fluff over this. The fluffy stuff seems to melt faster too.

It was a classic nor’easter and while most people were making their final preparations bracing for the storm, these two men figured it was a good time to try and get in some “urban golf” around New York City.

The guys, who are part of Barstool Sports, were on a mission to hack a tennis ball into a plastic bin around the snowy, deserted streets of Manhattan, essentially creating their own course along the way. They got off to a shaky start, because let’s be honest, who practices golf with a tennis ball in the snow with full ski gear on? But once they found their groove, they were off and running encountering all different types of lies, cars, and even the occasional police officer. Their round concluded on NYC’s signature 18th hole, right in the heart of Times Square!

For those of you in the Northeast, you have my condolences. We had a few inches in Northern Michigan the last couple of days but nothing like that.

Total snow measurement in the front yard was 16" but that didn't take into account all the blowing snow.  This morning half my driveway was under 6-8 inches of snow, the other half was maybe 3".

Today I went to the indoor range and worked on my sand wedge.    The more I practice, the more I wish to play outside.    I know spring starts in a few days but I'm not real patient.    Come on warmer weather...It is sleeting outside!

On Cleveland radio today I heard about "white out conditions" near Medina (south of Cleveland), with vehicles off the interstate that runs near there! That storm was heading SE, so it never got here, thank God!

All I know is the sun is getting higher in the sky everyday, it will be Spring, and then it will be Summer, and we will be playing golf! But it won't be this weekend. I'm going to batten down the hatches and flip back and forth between the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the NCAA tourney!

The courses, those that are open, are going to be swamps anyway!

Is that the Highlands? They do like to open early but that would be a miracle!

    • How isn't bogey a great score? As a 20 handicap every single time you make a bogey you are playing better than expected. Because if you bogeyed every hole you'd most likely be lower than a 20. You're a high handicap playing a hole that is lined with hazards the entire length of it on both sides.  Bogey is a very solid score for you on that hole.  From 300yds off the tee PGA tour players average 3.71 strokes to hole out. As a high handicap you are going to be more than 1 full stroke higher than that, probably closer to 2 full strokes higher.  If you had 100 different 20 handicaps play that hole I would bet a lot of money that the scoring average is greater than 5.0 Sometimes courses have really hard holes. Play for your bogey, be ecstatic about a par, and do everything possible to minimize double bogey.

    • I don’t think bogey is a great score here. Will try the 7i - 7i approach. If I’m short, I think I can get out of the bunker and if I’m on the right I can chip up.
    • Super narrow hole. Stroke average will likely be well over par here. Since it seems like it only plays what 300-305 for you from white tees I don't think 7i - 7i is the worst play if 7i dispersion is small enough that it would hardly ever reach the penalty hazards.  But if your 7i dispersion brings the hazards into play then you're likely better off hitting something further up there since everything would have the hazard in play.
