Absolutely brutal today, never hit 60 degrees and 20 MPH winds. This is the earliest I have ever worn long pants and multiple layers on my upper body.

Glad I am not playing tomorrow as it appears that it will be in the low 40s at 8AM.

Sunday actually surprised me here. Saturday was pretty crappy, but I poked my head outside and saw the sun burning the frost off the grass. The big thing was no wind. So nine holes was in the offing before football kicked off.

I spent Saturday shoveling gravel, then fixing my father-in-laws sink. Sunday I raked about 20,000,000,000 leaves at my house and my mother-in-laws. At least I'm getting the big projects done while the weather is crappy.

I remember doing something like that before. I lived on 2.5 acres and had a forest in the back. The wind blew them towards the house, of course.

I spent a good portion of Saturday doing leaf removal at my mum's place in Beavercreek. As for the Troy homestead, I'm waiting for the last two trees to shake the last few leaves. Maximize efficiency ya know.

I tried to use this argument before with no success, but I see you have more reasonable family members. ;-)

Had my first round that really felt wintery yesterday.  Temps were around 50 and it was very windy.  Lots and lots of leaves everywhere, making it difficult to find the ball even in the fairway.  As fate would have it, I had a horrible ball-striking round.  Adjusting to the weather may have had something to do with it.  The old bones get stiffer in the cold.

The grass grows, which sucks, because it's tougher to rake them then.

The absolute best method if you have the capacity is a big mulching riding mower with big bags.

Today, sunny, barely reached 50, with a steady wind if 20-25mph, gusting to 35 at times, leaves covered the green, some helped the putts. 39 on the front, 41 on the back, a little snow in shade areas, left over from Sunday.

What I actually have to work with is a push mower with a small bag. Labor-intensive and time-consuming. On the other hand, it burned up at least four or five beers-worth of calories. I enjoyed those beers while watching OSU throttle Illinois.

You might be surprised. Running for 30 minutes barely burns 250 calories…

I have for a 200 lb person running at 6 mph for 30 minutes will burn 450 calories?

My local course closed after this weekend. Lack of recent sunny days and slow course load was the culprit. I guess it is time to travel south to play @boogielicious

Your age and size plays a role in calories burned.  According to healthstatus.com, I would burn 410 calories for a 30 minute run at 6 mph.

When you relate calories eaten to minutes that you would have to work out, sometimes, that Snickers isn't so attractive.   A Snickers and a 12oz can of Pepsi requires a 30 minute run at 6 mph for me.  Usually it isn't worth the splurge.

Well, I'm tipping the scales at 230. I think that pushing around the old mower, wrestling with bags of chopped leaves and the like for 4 hours probably burned 500-600 calories. That would be four to five Yuenglings at 128 calories per. Not worth popping the last brain cell over.

Saturday looks possible if slightly uncomfortable with a high of 46. Sunday, we won't see 40 degrees and that's where my hands cease to cooperate. That'll be the day to deal with leaves in Troy.

    • If he had to hit over the bunker, I'm guessing he was further from the hole, although "in front of" implies the opposite.  If that's right, that may have been the right spot for penalty relief, a single PS.
    • Day 52. Trying to work on hard pan lie pitching in the rain in the yard.
    • Did you look up any Rules before posting here? What did you learn or find? You don't get to drop (or place) closer to the hole. 16.1(c) deals with relief for Abnormal Course Conditions in bunkers. You're granted free relief for: Since you say the bunker was basically entirely full of water, you likely wouldn't get complete relief, so for free (no penalty strokes), you are entitled to "maximum available" relief. If there's a spot in the back of the bunker away from the hole where the water is the shallowest, then you can drop there. If you don't like any of those options, you can take a penalty stroke and drop out of the bunker, behind it: You seem to have played from a wrong place (nearer to the hole) and thus likely should be penalized two strokes. It doesn't sound like a serious breach, at least.
    • I feel that the stock grips on my Wilson D9's are a little thin.  The grips on my other clubs (purchased used online and sold by me a couple months ago) were Golf Pride and they looked like the wrapped version.  I will say they felt like they had a little more cushion.  I don't have particularly large hands.  Did the grips on my other clubs have more tape or was just a better feeling softer grip?  I have no idea.  Well, any brands you would recommend that have a softer feel?
    • So this situation happened. A bunker in front of the green was full of water. My ball was underwater in the very back of the bunker furthest from the green. There was a small patch on the front upslope of the bunker nearest the green that theoretically could have been used to hit from if the ball was placed.  A drop would just roll back into the water. And this was the only part of the bunker you might be able to get a stance without standing in water. So my question is do you hit from that small front slope even though you would have to move the ball 6-7 closer to the pin? Or do you drop outside the bunker making sure you are no closer to the pin? I dropped in front of the bunker, so I had to chip over the whole bunker. Was this the right call? Also could I have moved it latterly outside the bunker, although this wouldn’t have made much difference as my ball was pretty much as far back in the bunker as you could be away from the hole.
