I dunno if I mentioned this before, but I'm gonna miss NBC's US Open music. Not a big listener of Yanni, but it fits the US Open pretty good. It's the right balance of martialness and pomp. I'm guessing Fox is gonna have some kind over the top blaring soundtrack.

Ya he was saying, that last week (and previous weeks) he was hitting his putts too aggressively and had 4, 5, and 6 footers come backs for par.

So this week, he wants to hit his putts softer, with about 18" past the hole. So in order to do that, by taking the right (actually that would be Phil's left hand) hand off the club and using his fingers. He's able to make the same stroke, just with less speed.

Kevin Streelman just said that there are three greens that will be so hard to hit that he will not even try to be on in regulation. Just put the ball in the best spot from which to get up and down. Which three are that hard that pros may be better off playing for an up and down?

That's funny because I was wondering something sorta similar to this the other day.  One of the things about Pinehurst (I'm learning) is that it's famous for having these "turtleback" greens that fall off on all sides, right?  And a lot of them fall off to closely mown collection areas, that are basically puttable fringe, I think.

So if they have any pin positions that are tucked near the roll off point, then I was wondering if there were some situations where a guy might be better off putting uphill from off the green than downhill from the center - which if he hits it too hard, could put him off the green anyway.

Well Matt Kuchar was talking about that today in his interview. That on some holes with some pin placements, it is better to be short sided because you can chip into the up slope of the domes.

Yea that is classic Donald Ross greens. He always liked his domed greens. He is also known for making the front of the green playable, but he will make over the green death. He will put huge drop offs over the green, think valley of sin at St. Andrews, but behind the green.

ESPN's coverage starts a 9:00 AM (all times Eastern) and stays on the air until 3:00 PM, when NBC takes over for the next two hours. At 5:00 PM, coverage shifts to ESPN2 for an hour; ESPN will pick up the broadcast at the end of the Brazil-Croatia match at 6:00 PM for the final hour of coverage.
