Shot a 54 tonight. Β Double-bogey every hole except two: one triple and one bogy.

So not a great round but felt like I was mostly hitting the ball well. Β And I got ice cream at the end.

Golf + ice cream = good round. :)

Survived 18. Β I was using GameGolf on my phone with the belt unit. Β My phone died and although I know the belt part kept going I'm not going to bother getting the data. Β I played the front 9 in 58 and the back was just getting worse (I was tired and my back was tightening up.)

Ah well, I enjoyed myself.

Three firsts for me today!Β  Played one of the local 9 hole courses.Β  Went round in 48!Β  First time below 50.Β  Also, birdied the second par 3.Β  Also... first time I've ever played and not lost a ball!

Putting was terrible today - missed 3 or 4 really easy putts that I'd normally get with my eyes closed, so could even have been ~45!

Played Saturday and although did not break 100 was happy with my improvement. IΒ have not been playing or practicing much due to work and life commitments, but have been able to do a little more recently. Had some bad shots, some really bad shots, but overall seeing my swing starting to come back to where it used to be. Maybe I crack that 100 number by fall.Β

Boy did I play badly today. Β Not going to mention the score; suffice it to say, I had a whopping 10 on a par 4. Β I even cheated on one hole and still got a triple!

However, it's hard to have a bad round on a beautiful, yet rainy evening.

As long as you'reΒ cheating why didn't you just write down "3"?

I'm as bad at cheating as I am at golfing. :)

Shot 56 on the same course I shot 47 a few weeks ago. But this time I actually didn't try to score the lowest possible but to hit the driver on every drivable hole. (never used a driver on course before). Didn't hit a single driver properly and lost 5 balls doing it.Β

The rest of my play (other than 2 3 putts) was pretty good. Even hit 2 greens in regulation on par 3s.Β

Played 4 pretty good hole and 1 bad one: Β Bogey, Bogey, Par, Quad, Bogey

Wish I could have played a full 9 but had to meet someone at the house.

I'm excited to be on the journey towards legitimately breaking 100. Β My goal is to do it this year. Β Thus far I'm just being a range rat; not ready for the course just yet.

To quote a familiar phrase, let's do this.

Ha ha

Sometimes we get upset and forget to score a hole. Those are automatic pars, because of course what else could they be ?

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

I grew up in Western NYΒ and moved out of state after college. Β I once said there was no way in hell I'd move back to NY. Β Been back for the past 12 years and can't imagine living anywhere else (though I think I'm going to retire someplace warm.)

Played my first real round of golf after warming up the night before with Men's League. Β I had two birdies, and shot 51-52 for 103. Β That's probably the best opener I've ever golfed. Β

Struggled mightly for a while trying to swing too hard. Β Once I slowed down and relaxed things went a lot better. Β

Hello bad. I'm back.

A month ago, it seemed like a good idea to change to an interlocking grip from my old baseball grip. I told myself it wouldn't be easy, but had no idea it would be this bad. The first two weeks offered some optimistic moments. Sure there were spats of shanking that resulted in blowup holes, but there were some solid shots and holes as well. I had a couple of scores in the mid 90s (albeit easier courses that IΒ expected mid 80s last year). The last two weeks have been a disaster. I can't even tell you a score, because each of the four rounds have featured picking up on multiple holes. Well north of 100 to be sure.

Right now, I'm running significant mishits on about half of all swings (full or pitch). A bunch of them are shanks and the rest a combination of pulls, hooks (with FW), fats and an occasional top. I now understand that the new grip eliminated a major compensation in my old swing. Firing my wrists through the ball led to a lot of timing issues, but it gave the club a chance to be square. Β Β

This is painful enough that I wish I hadn't made this change, but it's done and there's no going back. I guess there will be no comps for me until I get it figured out, whenever that is.

Played the back nine (used to be the front nine) on the course we are having a tournament on Sunday.Β

Played 56... Again played the driver and started with a flop shot driver :) 60 yards in the air with 40 distance. Got to near green with next 2 and then doubled on the first par 4.

Second hole is a long par 5 nailed the driver 20 yards shorter than the pro that played with us, carrying the fairway bunkers. Was near GIR with my third then just overhit the wedge and it rolled down the green. 2 putted for another double.Β

Third hole is a 220 yard bit downhill par 3. Hit my 5 iron (didn't have a good feeling with my 4 iron on the range) and was about 2 yards short of the green. Left the hole with a single.Β

Fourth hole was my first blowup hole. It's WIDE open but I managed to push slice 2 drives out of bounds. Third drive hit the fairway. Made double with my third ball so 10 total.

Fifth hole again driver pull slice on the adjacent fairway, took my 5 iron for my second tee shot and duffed it badly. Still finished with a triple on the par 4.Β

Sixth hole is a 130ish par 3. Pro said anyone who makes par gets a beer. Naturally I made par :)

Seventh is a 500 yard par 5, first shot was into a water hazard about 180 out, third shot was a nice 5 iron to about 180 from the green but with a sidehill lie. Fourth shot was 170 yards missed the green left 15 yards. Then I hit my first wedge shank in ages and went 45 degrees away from the hole. Long story short left it with a quadruple.Β

Eight hole is another par 5. Drive went about 230ish and just rolled into the fairway bunker on the adjacent fairway... Hit my 7 iron but duffed it and hit the edge of the bunker. Then hit the edge again with a 60 wedge, then finally on my third wedge shot got about 80 yards out of the bunker. So my 5th shot I was 180 out and took a 9 iron, wanted to play smart and hit a nice shot. Left me with about a 70 yard approach. Pitched with a pitch wedge and it went sailing over the green. Too much juice on it but a clean contact. Finished with a 9 again.Β

9th hole is a 160 yard par 3. Hit my 6 iron to about 5 yards away from the pin. 2 putts for second par of the day.Β

Β

For the tournament I'm thinking of leaving the driver at home as I won't be able to practice a lot this week and I've only been hitting the driver for a month or so. I might take it with me but only play it on "safe" holes where there is no out of bounds danger.Β

So I finished with a 56 total (might have actually been a 58 now that I think about it, since another guy kept score for all of us and somehow his phone didn't record a 10 on the 4th). 17 net points. Without a driver I think my score would be around 50. Maybe breaking 50 since I had 4 OB and 1 water hazard and a bunker that I couldn't have reached with any of my other clubs.Β

Played nine with my fiancee on the bag (she likes to push the cart because it's more exercise.) Β Shot 53: Β 4 singles, 3 double bogeys, a triple and a quad. Β But only 1 ball.Β :-D

Played my second ever 18 holes.Β

Didn't break 100 but I did lower my HCP by 6 strokes.Β

Was on point after the first 9. Shot a 50. Then on the back 9 I had 51 + one where I picked the ball up (would probably be around a 10) so a 111-112... Frustrating.Β
