Wet conditions today.

Long game was better than they've been in a while but my driver was not good other than the one on 10. I tried to hit less than full swings into greens inside 150 yards and that didn't work out so well. Partial wedges weren't great, either. I think my feel on partial swings was just off.

Changed my bunker club from my SW to my LW and it made a huge difference. I ended up in five bunkers and hit all but one inside 10', making two of the putts. I did pretty well from around the greens in general, but didn't make many medium-length putts.

GG indicated some personal bests for me on this last round! (I also consider it more legit as its a course with a legit slope/course rating). Most pars in a round (9) and lowest amount of putts in a round (30). Despite the low putts, I know it came from short game shots, as I still lost 1 stroke putting compared to a 15HI.

Other than that, I pulled an iron out-of-bounds, which isnt my usual iron miss.. I think I was trying to hit it hard, which made me lose focus on hitting from my right-side, which my lesson recommended.

Also had a horrendous start to my round off-the-tee. I was just hesitant to take out the driver as I felt I hadn't truly waken up yet.

Best round of the year! Didn't complete the no sixes challenge, though. Or the no sevens, but I was one or two bad holes away from breaking 80. Close-ish.

Course played great. Weather started out cold, but then it warmed up nicely. Slightly breezy. They did aerate the greens on Tuesday though, but the ball rolled well on most greens.

Struck the ball well for the most part, misses were in better spots. Short game was pretty good. I think I only made one or two really bad mistakes that weren't due to tough lies. Putting was good, too. Didn't miss any short ones. Didn't really have many long putts, come to think of it. Everything kind of just clicked today.

Based on the forecast, this is likely my last round of the year. :-(

Even with the lost ball penalty on 2, GG said I still "gained" 4.1 strokes off the tee against my handicap level of 15.

-I said "gained" as GG cant tell whats a recovery shot. I got unlucky on a few drives, where I got stuck behind trees just a few feet off the fairway. It was gutting to hit a 300 yard drive a few feet off the fairway, and land infront of literally the one single dead tree sitting there.

-Lost 7 strokes to my HI level of 15.

-I dont know if I was misjudging the wind, or I simply was getting tired, but my shots were ending up short a lot today by 10-15 yards. My tendency is an even split between short and long. I did wake up today hurting a lot in my shoulder so it might have been something there.

Great weather for golf today. Started a little cold but warmed up nicely with a steady breeze. Course was in great shape and the greens healed nicely from the aeration a few weeks ago. The greens were soft and rolled pure.

Hit a "career" best 9 GIR today. I hit the ball fairly well, with a few notable exceptions. Short game was off for a bit. I did have some sketchy lies but it was a mechanical issue that I corrected later on. I think I'm going to go back to using more than one club around the greens. I have a tendency to hit my LW too short and it doesn't roll out like I want it to, and I'm leery of flying it farther and closer to the hole in case I miss. Certain situations, like on 14, I had plenty of green to work with and could have hit a GW or something that would run a bit more, but I ended up hitting my LW almost 20' short.

My bead was off all day. Speed was fine so I was still was able to putt ok, but I never rolled a ball close enough to have a chance to drop a single medium length putt. I even missed a 4-footer for birdie. It's a real shame, too, because the greens were rolling so well.

I did manage to hack a ball out of a hazard that saved me a stroke. Bonus! Finishing the season off strong, probably only going to get one or two more rounds in before the last revision of the year.

Went out for an early round today, pretty cool and windy so that definitely knocked a few of the drives down. Was the first person out on the course so I was able to complete 18 holes in just over 2 hours and that was with some practice shots around the green on a few holes as well.

Forgot to account for the wind on a couple approach shots and took the wrong club a few times.

Had a very solid day putting, poured in quite a few for par saves. I read a topic in the swing thoughts forum about not aiming at the apex of the putt and instead getting aligned left or right of the hole and then making a "straight" putt in relation to where you are aligned. That made such a difference and really helped me.

First time playing this course too so pretty solid overall.

It was cold, damp, and drizzled at times, but the course was in good shape and the greens are always good here. I wouldn't say it was a windy round but the prevailing wind did factor in on a few holes. My game took the day off, though.

Really struggled with my lines with the driver today and that put me in a few fairway bunkers and environmentally sensitive areas, which are a drop and a stroke penalty. I actually hit my irons pretty well today, too, but being in those fairway bunkers really hurt me.

Short game was ok. I hit some good shots and some not so good ones, but I didn't feel like I hit the ball as close as I would have liked. Not that it would have mattered because I putt like crap. I kept leaving 3-4' second putts and I missed half of them. I could have dropped four strokes just from putting to my skill level.

Three pars all day (two of the three par-5s, plus the opening par-4), but only two double bogeys so at least it was a decent round.  Putted horribly, had some poor drives too, but great approach (lost 1.71 shots) and short game (lost 1.95).  And I can think of three short game shots I'd like to have back too (incidentally, my third shot on all three sixes -- two routine pitches I hit too far and a wedge I hit too short).

Today's approach game, 1.71 shots lost, that's better than a 5 handicap.

Play 9 holes this past Saturday. Weather was great and I had a gift certificate I had to use by the end of the year.

First round played since the NC.

37 on the back nine with 1 birdie and 2 bogies. 6 gir, 6 fw's and 16 putts.

+6 through 14 before light went. Really happy given that I haven't played much recently. Just had a bit of a nightmare on the first par 3, where I found two muddy lies and played poor wedge shots. Otherwise pretty decent!

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

73 (+1) for a new personal best

The good news is that I'm getting more comfortable going low - particularly pleasing given that I was not swinging well. There were a few lucky breaks, but I stayed aggressive the whole way and had a really good number of birdie opportunities. 78% GIR helps :-).

More specifically, my driving was pretty dire compared to where it has been - I was fighting a hook the whole time and just wasn't finding a groove. Putted pretty well, but would like to hole more, wedge game was generally outstanding with one blip on the 18th. I was also delighted with how many times I got to pin-high. Slightly gutted that, having been this close, I couldn't quite close out a round under par (-2 through 12), but it's great progress!

First round with Game Golf. Still learning. After I came home I realized it didn't pick up any of my shots after hole 8. So gotta figure out what happened there.

Anyway, today was cold (for North Florida) and rainy. Didn't get the normal carry distances with the wet cold air. Still drove the ball and putted very well. I have been struggling with my putting lately so today was a good day. This is a tough course, so I was happy with my score, especially the +4 on the back.

After taking advantage of the great Game Golf Live deal over the holidays, I managed to play my first round with the device.

https://www.gamegolf.com/player/philkohnken/round/1968854

Weather really sucked today.  About 41 degrees and rained the whole time.  Course is soaked, so the ball plugged a lot.  But, I was dressed to play in the deluge and managed to score solidly.  Only had 2 miss-hits with the driver, which was surprising after taking about 2 weeks off.  Short game felt like it royally sucked because of a couple things.  First I have brand new wedges which spin a ton, second the greens are soft and not rolling out, and thirdly I assume there's me to blame, partially ;-)  Still a 66 (-6) and several things going astray is pretty cool.  The 2 key stats from my round is 83% GIR and 1.61 putts per hole.

+10. Very windy again (20mph). Great front nine, but really struggled into wind on the back nine. Didn't help that I started trying to change things with my swing from the 13th onwards, resulting in some really disastrous shots. To do list:

- get better with 3w and hybrid off the deck
- develop confidence with my 1/2 wedge swing (awful duff on 3 and a thin on 17 really cost me)
- try to find a time to practise driver into the wind. I just need to be comfortable taking a little off it.

Lots of good - the fairway stat is misleading as I missed lots by just a few yards (2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14) and all were very safe. GIR in the wind was less good, but didn't miss many greens in bad spots. Pleased with knock-down shots in the wind and the effectiveness of some of my lower pitch and run shots. Also putted fairly well. Just need to get rid of those 5 awful swings that are still costing me shots. All about consistency...

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

It's interesting, the rounds I've recorded with this device all have been solid so far.  But, they have only been at my home course, so there's that.

Today was a 68 from the blue tees which was nice.  I was hoping for around par, so this was unexpected.  But, I had a lot of help from a hole out from 50yds for eagle!  I didn't hit as many fairways today, but the errant shots didn't cause me too much trouble.  My ball striking has been very consistent of late.  The stats wouldn't say much, but putting has been my weakness. At my home course, I've been making some good putts, where at other course I can't make anything.  Just a few putts makes a big difference when you hover around par a lot.

Ok, gave Game Golf a try, first round ever. Had jury duty today and got out early enough to get in 9 holes. Shot 35, not bad considering I haven't touched a club in almost a month. Was a little inconsistent with the driver, but thats to be expected with the layoff and the fact I went straight from the parking lot to the tee box. Only hit 5 greens but my misses were not too bad, although I couldn't seem to get it up and down.

In all honesty it was blowing 25-30mph and I was straight down wind. Plus it's hard and fast this time of year.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
