Everyone take that quiz and post your results here. We'll discuss it as well.

The accompanying article is http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-instruction/2014-10/the-grit-factor-bob-carney

I shouldn't have to say this, but I probably do: Be honest. You're not helping anyone if you lie to yourself and the quiz.

I scored a 44.

Comments on a few…

1. It didn't like that "I play it by ear" when it comes to my practice. But… I feel I probably practice better than a lot of people, and why would I "work my way through the bag"? I almost picked "practice what I'm lousy at" but I saw that as part of "play it by ear." I have long-term and short-term practice goals, and sometimes I do one, and sometimes I do the other.

3. Absolutely. I've commented on this recently. Not playing my best golf, still shooting some good scores.

5. I don't play many matches, and I've rarely been down in the ones I play. So this was a bit of throw-away for me.

7. Given the percentages, I think a LOT of people are lying.

9. 14% of golfers take lessons, ever. So… they needed a "I don't take lessons" option.

10. I love "I'm good in this stuff" but not for HALF the draw. If everyone's playing in crap, then yes, I tell myself I love it. :) But if it's just my half, it happens, and you've gotta play. But I can't lie to myself about it being an advantage.

P.S. 50-60 is a Tour pro, but I think you can only get 5 points per question. Plus, I hate scales like that. A Tour pro could get 15 and a hack could score 50. :P

I got 36.

I don't remember ever winning a match after being way down, so I put never and got 1 for that one, but otherwise, it's all 3's and 5's for me.  I think my best trait is that I have a really good attitude (learned from playing a lot of golf with my dad and doing the exact opposite ;)) so that's where my answers come on some of the questions.  Learning from a crappy round, enjoying having to pick up the team, and not dreading the 3 footer or the lousy weather too much. :)

My score was a 40

Some of the questions were poorly formed

1. I work on my priority piece so I voted on "What I'm Lousy at" but I could have also gone with "Play it by ear". I might spot something weird I'm doing with my stance or grip and spend a little time correcting that.

3. Oh course it's realistic, just watch me play ;-)

5. How can you win matches "pretty often" after being WAY down? Just doesn't make sense. I don't care how much grit you have, if you're down 4 or 5 with 9 holes to play, you probably aren't winning most of those matches.

6. I voted for "learning" but then there are some bad rounds where you do a bunch of things wrong so it's best just to brush it off and try to forget about it.

10. Voted for "It Happens", I don't mind playing in bad weather, I can talk myself into "loving it" but it's not how I really feel.

I agree that some of the questions and answers were poorly stated.

My score was 38.

4. I'm not a big fan of pre-shot routines. If it were up to me I would hit before my partners ball had landed.

6. Does anyone like a high-scoring round?...really?

30 which seems lower than most here and doesn't surprise me.  When things go bad I don't always show it on the outside; however, I am most definitely boiling on the inside.

36.

Haven't read the article yet and don't know what a 36 really means.

If it means I suck at golf the test probably has some validity. ;-)

38 for me.

I rely on my pre shot routine, don't usually come back when I'm way down in a match and will work through most of my clubs in a practice session - reason being that I want to see if my current swing thought holds up with every club.

40. My best scores have always been when I am hitting it well so if I am off, my score reflects it. Does it keep me from trying to bail myself out? No. I don't take lessons either but I do illicit help from here and some other places if I can trust the information, when I am playing poorly. To me it's kind of a lesson because I am utilizing outside help.

    • Day 11: Worked on putting with the metronome
    • I added to total today by hopping it in on the first hole for an eagle. A short par 4, I hit 4 wood to 110. With a little breeze in my face I hit a 50 degree gap wedge to 2 feet and watched it hop into the hole for an eagle 2!
    • Sounds good. Text me if you have any questions. You have a good setup, too, and so long as you can get good camera angles… you should be good. https://skillest.com/@iacas
    • Day 14 (September 18).  Morning practice, despite questionable weather (it's raining).   Worked on chipping at first, including run-ups with UW and PW;  I've noticed lately some of my near-GIRs are missing forward, with nothing but grass ahead of me, but 20-30 yards to the pin.  After a few misadventures putting those lately, I wanted to at least get a feeling for what a 30-yard chip shot that doesn't have the variance of my quarter lob wedge would feel like.  I still think "putt when you can putt" is right, but... I am less sure I have a 30 yard putt in me.  Range time also, of course, same routine as the past week or so (drill, 3-4 slow shots, etc).   Did not get to the putting green as it was starting to come down a bit more. Darn, it really is raining.  And I thought today would be a perfect day to play, seeing as how it's 9-18 and all.
    • I'm in the same boat.  I think the last team event I got really excited for was the 2019 Presidents' Cup.  When I first got into golf, the Ryder Cup was an event (one among many) I used to plan my schedule around to make sure I'm able to watch it.   I'm not sure I realized how close it was until I saw this thread pop up.
