I bought a house on a golf course.

1. Why are there 3 different tee off starting places.

2. why don't golfers say they are sorry when the ball hits your house.

Three different tees because each is for a specific level of golfer.. Scratch casual women or combination of such. For the other question do you more details. Like what do you expect of them? Do they have to come ring the bell or a simple I'm sorry wave from a far will do?

Congratulations on home ownership. It seems this is your first house on a golf course: there are a lot of nice benefits to owning a home so close to a course, but there are also lots of responsibilities.
1. Why are there 3 different tee off starting places.
The course plays differently from each; think of them as "difficulty levels." The ones closer to the hole are, generally, easier. It also allows some variety to the players.
2. why don't golfers say they are sorry when the ball hits your house.
They might not be aware they hit your house. Also, you should invest in some netting or another mechanism to protect your backyard from stray golf balls. If you aren't the first owner of your house, I'm surprised the previous owner didn't do it.

It funny to me, I tried searching the internet for the answer to the 3 tee question. I could NOT find the answer anywhere. Does the 2nd tee being 10 feet closer REALLY help the less skilled golfer. I can see the 3rd tee helping the women.

If you break my window I would expect you to pay for it. If you hit my house, I bought it so if I don't like it I should move. No one cares if their ball dings my siding. America..........so disrespectful.

Different skill levels and abilities. Better players and those who can hit it farther hit from the tees that are farther from the hole. You should look at the laws.-You bought a house on a golf course, many ? states say unless a golfer intentionally tries to hit your house you are responsible.-Get good insurance.
It funny to me, I tried searching the internet for the answer to the 3 tee question. You can expect whatever you want. I expect Santa Claus to come down my chimney in a few weeks and bring me a pony. Before you go after someone for the money, though, check your local laws. In most jurisdictions, you've assumed the risk of golf balls in the normal course of play hitting your house by purchasing said property. If someone tees up and takes aim at your house, that's a different issue, but if it's in the normal course of play, that's on you.

On hitting your home with a golf ball. I was on a jury that heard a case about damage caused by errant golf shots. The home owner was suing the golf course company for $10K in repairs accumulated over less than a year's time. He had a stucco covered home, and was located at the 175 yard marker from the closest tee box. The pictures of his home looked like it had been involved in a drive by shooting.

The defense argued successfully that by purchasing a home on a golf course, the home owner was also giving "implied consent" that he knew his home would most likely be struck by errant golf shots. The defense also showed no intent of malice, and several other verdicts that supported their defense. Also, the golf course was not required to make sure all the golfers that purchased green fees would not hit errant golf shots. We found in favor of the defense 9-0. The trial lasted about 2 hours total.

The defense also brought up the point of the home owner not installing protective screening to prevent damage. The home owner said his HO association would not allow this. The judge at the request of the home owner wrote an order for the HO association to allow such protective devices to be installed using possible bodily injury for his reasoning. However since the HO association was not part of this trial they had 30 days to appeal the order to another court.

Now should the owner of an errant golf shot own up to their mistake? Sure they should since golf is some what still considered an gentlemen's game..........by some.

Most would.

But, presumably you knew there was a golf course there, so there are pretty obvious risks.

I find it odd that you say "Americans are disrespectful".  That's a pretty extreme generalisation.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

The distances between tees varies on each hole. For the hole you overlook the difference might be 10 feet, for another hole it might be 75 yards. You should go to a driving range and see how difficult it is to consistently hit a ball on target. You bought the house on the golf course, you assume the risk. It sounds like you also purchased a house in one of the worst possible locations (a short to moderate distance in front of the tee boxes). Perhaps you should have done a bit more research when making a purchase as large as a house.

I think you should take up golf and then you would easily understand how this happens...

I am insulted by the fact that you can, on one hand seek the profitablility of such an investment as a house on a golf course, while on the other hand consider Americans who golf rude while passing on all those who hit your house that are not American. I assure you that from my own experience playing with foriegn persons that the math skills that got them the job here in no way are reflected in their golfing skill. Personally, I find it rude that you are not out there thanking the players for improving your home equity, which I am quite sure is an overiding importance from your perspective.

Even the best golfers in the world hit errant shots.  If someone hits an errant shot and hits your house, they are actually doing exactly what they are suppose to do.  They're playing golf on a golf course.

Having golf balls fly into your property is just part of what you paid for when you bought the house.

Pretty clever of them to have sold you a condo without telling you there was a golf course right there and your home will get hit by golf balls. It is not like you had the house and THEN they built the course.  You knew it was there and bought anyway.

It is kind of like the person who buys the house with the built in pool and then gets upset when he finds out how much it increases his homeowners insurance.

Morally,it is called assumption of risk.  Legally, it depends on the state.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Thanks for this response.  You took the word right out of my mouth.

Over so many rounds, I ran into few homeowners as I walked by their house.  One was repairing a broken window and he said he knew about the risk (it was 3rd time his window got broken) and didn't want to ruin the view by putting up a tent.

To Sbrady9 - Keep the golf balls.  Clean & wash them, throw away bad ones, and sell the rest on Ebay.   Thanks the golfers who gave up their golf balls b/c your house happened to stand in their ball striking path.   Expecting others to behave to meet your standard is unrealistic.

I detest playing on courses with houses lining the fairway. Frankly, I'm not that good. The presence of houses make me that much more uptight. That, of course, leads to a greater risk of actually hitting a house.

Most of my golf is on old-school muni courses. Not fancy places, but no bleeding mini-mansions cluttering the place up.

No offense, to anyone that owns one.
