Nope, points are based off "Low round of each day" Charley Hoffman's - 5 under par 20 points.

I had only one starter, score 12 points for my team.

My other three starters -

Kaymer shot 82 - "Goose Eggs" - 0 points

Duffer shot 79 - "Goose Eggs" - 0 points

Han shot 80 - "Goose Eggs" - 0 points

It's an ugly week for sure. I managed 14 points. Hopefully they all make a rebound today.

Did anyone see Phil hit the bunker shot yesterday which snapped the club head off?

I saw the ball fly out first and then the club head hit the bunker face first and then fly out of the bunker.

They then showed a great view of Phil starring at the end of the shaft. Absolutely "Priceless"

Then, they show Phil has a phone in hand, looks like he just sent a text and then puts the phone in the golf bag.

Saw that.  Yes, the look on Phil was priceless.   My 1st thought on the club was "assembled in China?"   Some cheap knock offs imported from China had these issues of breaking off and I didn't feel that Phil hit hard enough to break it off.

Saw Phil text someone right afterward, presumably, to ask the person for a replacement club.

FIVE PLAYERS WITHDRAW: McDowell was one of a few high-profile names to walk off the course with an ankle injury on Thursday. Sang-Moon Bae (back and hip) and Colt Knost (wrist and cowpers) also pulled out mid-round with injuries. Mike Weir (wrist) and Alex Cejka (back) withdrew prior to the start of the first round.

Hmmmmm ....  how many of these are legit injuries?

Whether it's due to injury or not, my personal opinion is that there should be a significant fine to deter WDs in general.   Some fans buy tickets to watch a specific player play, glutes acting up or not.

I was shocked to see that Zack Johnson was using a new putter. He has used a Seemore FGP model for years. In fact I can't remember him ever putting with anything else. I tried to get a look at what he was using yesterday but couldn't tell. I don't know if the wind had anything to do with the change or if it was for other reasons. Does anyone know what's up with the change?

Don't know why the change but they did say that he's used that seemore exclusively since 2000.

And, he is a damn good putter with it.  Interesting.

Are we saying that perhaps a few of these guys are fakers? Probably not. However, given that wind yesterday, if it were me, I certainly would have developed some kind of ailment. You know the wind is strong and steady when the sticks hold an arc.

I am saying that if any of these guys were in or near the lead, they may not have injuries ;-) .   How many players in or near the lead ever WD due to injury?    Hardly ever!   The one I remember is a few years ago when a player got paged that his wife is just about to give birth their child.   I think he was in the lead but immediately packed and left the tournament.

He is. I own a couple of Seemore putters including Zack's model. Very nice putters. I will say, in my experience, with the FGP if for whatever reason you're not making contact directly on the sweet spot it becomes difficult to control distance. That's why I think it might be a wind issue. Did you notice what he used today?

Yes, if near the lead, the injuries would somehow not be so bad. I can't recall anyone that pulled out early with or near the lead. I can tell you this - Scott Hoch should have pulled himself out of at least 13-15 tournaments to save us, the fans, from visual injury.

Gee, Ferguson, that info on Colt Knost is pretty specific. Is Colt telling us his penis is sore, or what?  Or do you have some special knowledge of ailments which cause bad golf ?

That was back when the tournament was played at the La Cantera Resort Course, if I recall correctly.  That was the one with the amusement park roller coaster in the background on number 7.  I played there a couple times, a very fun, quirky course, but way too short for today's pros, conditions were middling due to heavy resort play, and the routing was very difficult for spectators.

G-Mac's been off all year. Just something not right with him. So not surprising he has an injury.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
