I haven't seen too many up-close pictures of the greens, so how are they?

Everyone is of course playing at the same greens, but I can understand some players calling it unfair if the greens got patchy spots. That means you can be unlucky if your ball happens to have a rough spot on your putting line, when the guy that put the ball a foot farther left stayed clear of it.

He pissed and moaned about the greens. Said he's lost a little respect for the USGA and that it's not fair.

That's not what I heard.

I heard him say his wee-wee hurt, and he is mad at the people that made it that way.

Slightly misnamed, but otherwise interesting.

They don't look particularly good to me.  I've seen way too many side-to-side wobbles when the ball slows.

So, how was it determined that DJ is in the last group instead of Grace?

I believe DJ holed out out of turn on 18 yesterday, so he posted first. If I was Grace and that is what it was based upon I would be pissed.

I say I believe he holed out out of turn, I had a few beers in me by then and my memory may be shot.

Horschel has a point ...  "it makes great putters average, and average putters remain ... average .... so the better putters are penalized."

The greens left Spieth family impotent yesterday ... which is why I'm predicting a DJ win.

If he has another "driving" day like yesterday, he will be in good shape.

He has a point but it was his whiny delivery.

I hope Spieth's family isn't impotent from the greens. I mean he is already here, but going forward this is unfortunate. I just thought they were kinda bumpy, but wow

Horrible stroke by JS....nothing to do with greens

This golf course sucks. I'm gonna take Gary Players word for it. Let's show slow play on an unplayable golf course and see if we can promote our game. Nice job USGA. I for one can't wait to hop on a plane and fly across the country to drop a few hundred to play Chambers Bay.... oh wait.... no...I...don't. ;-)

The shouting on the tee here(and other tourneys in th US) makes no sense whatsoever and is a bit OTT/ long in the tooth. Especially when they're saying it about shots that a 20 capper would be disappointed with. Do these "fans" even play?

Been playing properly since May 2014, got the bug now, so I'm here forever. Must have watched a billion hours of youtube videos, seems to help!

I'm not ;)

Umm, slow play isn't isolated to the US Open ;) Its an issue on any tournament.

The course isn't unplayable. Heck there has been a lot more golf courses in the past that have played much harder.

Winning Score

Merion: +1

Olympic club: +1

Pebbly Beach: E

Oakmont: +5

Winged Foot: +5

This course has been very playable. You just have to know how to play it. You just can't play your typical, "I'll take dead aim with high ball flight and have the ball stop with in 30 FT from the pin." In some cases just hitting the green isn't a good shot. If you miss it left and you KNOW that hitting it left of the pin will get you a 60 yard pitch shot, don't hit it left of the pin. It's not a good shot.

I for one can't wait to hop on a plane and fly across the country to drop a few hundred to play Chambers Bay.... oh wait.... no...I...don't.

I am putting this course on my bucket list. It looks fantastic. Country Club golf is just boring.

Rory giving us a thrill.

Think he's left it too late though.

    • Did you look up any Rules before posting here? What did you learn or find? You don't get to drop (or place) closer to the hole. 16.1(c) deals with relief for Abnormal Course Conditions in bunkers. You're granted free relief for: Since you say the bunker was basically entirely full of water, you likely wouldn't get complete relief, so for free (no penalty strokes), you are entitled to "maximum available" relief. If there's a spot in the back of the bunker away from the hole where the water is the shallowest, then you can drop there. If you don't like any of those options, you can take a penalty stroke and drop out of the bunker, behind it: You seem to have played from a wrong place (nearer to the hole) and thus likely should be penalized two strokes. It doesn't sound like a serious breach, at least.
    • I feel that the stock grips on my Wilson D9's are a little thin.  The grips on my other clubs (purchased used online and sold by me a couple months ago) were Golf Pride and they looked like the wrapped version.  I will say they felt like they had a little more cushion.  I don't have particularly large hands.  Did the grips on my other clubs have more tape or was just a better feeling softer grip?  I have no idea.  Well, any brands you would recommend that have a softer feel?
    • So this situation happened. A bunker in front of the green was full of water. My ball was underwater in the very back of the bunker furthest from the green. There was a small patch on the front upslope of the bunker nearest the green that theoretically could have been used to hit from if the ball was placed.  A drop would just roll back into the water. And this was the only part of the bunker you might be able to get a stance without standing in water. So my question is do you hit from that small front slope even though you would have to move the ball 6-7 closer to the pin? Or do you drop outside the bunker making sure you are no closer to the pin? I dropped in front of the bunker, so I had to chip over the whole bunker. Was this the right call? Also could I have moved it latterly outside the bunker, although this wouldn’t have made much difference as my ball was pretty much as far back in the bunker as you could be away from the hole.
    • I just got my shotscope v5 watch and used it yesterday. Its fairly accurate at the course I was playing so I did not use my rangefinder at all. I was able to calculate what club i needed from that.
