Would you shakes hands with ... ?

In a recent round, my playing partners had a bit of drink, and frequently relieved themselves in trees, bushes, etc..  They did a good job saving water, fertilizing the golf course.   Big question to you all ... would you shake their hands at the end of the round?    I carry both gloves.   I will keep my right glove on when I shake their hands, will take off my hat though.

Sure, I'm not that uptight about that stuff, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, I doubt there's anything all that funky being transferred anyway.

I try to not shake anyone's hand, I propose a forearm bump instead.

But, I had leukemia, chemo, a bone marrow transplant, and continue to be on immune suppression medication.  The most common cause of death among my sub-group is catching a virus or bacteria and not being able to shake it.

What do a lot of people do right before a meeting starts?

I think that as long as he isn't pissing on his hand then I wouldn't really care that much, or you could just use some of his liquor to sterilize your hand afterwards.

I wouldn't be shocked if at some point people stopped shaking hands as a general practice but until then I'm not all that concerned about where their hands were.  I carry anti-bacterial hand sanitizers in my bag and car.

I'm willing to bet that whatever is on their hands isn't worse than what is on your golf ball during a round of golf.

Agreed.  I take risks so I can enjoy my life.  But, I avoid unnecessary risks like shaking hands.  (I think the biggest risk I take is eating at restaurants.)

I've always believed that more people get sick because of the worry-induced stress these things cause than from the thing they are worrying about.

[/quote] I disagree that this will ever happen (ie people stop shaking hands) A little OT - In the Arab world it is also a kiss or two on both cheeks depending on who you meet.. Family members it is a given, but then it becomes common with close acquaintance or an old friend... For women it is always the case close acquaintance or not.. Back on topic- I would just raise my hand in the air and pretty much excuse my self from shaking his hand no matter what :)

I hate hand sanitizer, but I keep it in my golf bag for just this reason. Also, the post-round handshake is the one time I wish I was left handed. However, I putt without a glove, so it'd be conspicuous to only wear it on #18.

Come on guys, there's a bathroom right at the clubhouse you can wash up at when you're done shaking hands with everyone. Unless your clubhouse is a double-wide trailer with no bathroom, that is ;-) Except for @No Mulligans . That's totally understandable.

I carry it for washing my hands off after handling a golf ball that rolled through goose crap (which covers a lot of courses here in NY), not shaking hands.

I read today in the Wall Street Journal that the makers of anti-bacterial soap and sanitizer are going to be investigated by the FDA because there is some question as to whether they actually work as advertised.  It seems the major concern is that doctors and nurses have started using such products in place of washing their hands with soap and water and there is potential that they are transferring viruses and bacteria from infected patients to healthy ones as a result of this practice

Totally agree. That hand sanitizer stuff is probably ruining people's immune systems. It's good to be hygienic but you don't need to be sterile. Some of you guys must be complete basket cases to go camping with.
