Watching her swing I saw nothing "A" about it, maybe (hopefully) she dumped it realizing if it ain't broke...

But maybe I didn't see it and she's just getting the hang of it, or never really adopted the A swing and just struggled like everyone does, but it sure seemed strange.

I don't know, this looks pretty "A Swing" to me. Hands in, not much forearm rotation, standing the shaft up going back. Agree with @jbishop15 that it's less across the line than some swings from earlier in the year.

I thought the demise of Lydia Ko was premature and the OP's post was unfair.   Ko was on an unsustainable pace before she lost her #1 ranking.   I thought she ran into "slump" (if one can call it at that) isn't anything unusual.   Other #1 ranked players men and women went through similar cycle, Tiger, Rory, In Bee Park included.   I felt the OP used the downturn to call out her swing coach without really understanding what is going on with Ko.   She is, what, just 18 years old?  One can't expect her to continue to win at her pace, maintain #1 ranking no matter who her swing coach happens to be.

I gotta agree with that, looks " A Swing" to me. Clubface keeping at the ball which varies the lack of forearm rotation on bs.

I'm looking at the shadow of her head on the ground.  She has a really steady head.  "A swing" or not, I imagine she has all 5 keys.

Yes, she certainly does.

OT: You can have all 5 Keys with an A Swing, Jim Hardy swing, Stack and Tilt swing, Mike Bender swing, etc.

When I saw the telecast on Sunday, Ko's backswing looked A Swing, did I not remember the "A" downswing -- only as a baseball type swing. Looking at the above, Ko does not look stuck with the right elbow as I saw in a video earlier in the spring.

On Sunday, late in the round, I heard the commentators call it a fade, and I saw a fade flight - perhaps under pressure, something broke down late in the round. Someone on another forum said he followed her for 3 days and Ko was hitting it straight or with a baby draw.

Seems to me that she was trying to hit a draw as her stock shot. Her last shot on eighteen (and the one in the playoff) were both straight pushes.

Guess it was the fairway slope that moved the ball left to right.................

Saw a piece on Golf Central that she's changing her swing--less vertical, they said.  They didn't mention swing coach at all.  Anyone hear any details?

Should still be Leadbetter unless she switched again.

Last I heard Leadbetter was trying to get her to drink more of the A-Swing Kool Aid.

Lol. Just have to wait out her run of form for a few years and then it will come true!

If she had only fired Leadbetter, I'm sure she would have shot better than a 62 today.

Clearly he cost her a 59...

Apparently the 62 came after working with Leadbetter at the range.

I have to agree. I think Leadbetter is not a good coach. I don't know why he's so popular with some of the pros. I hope someone in Ko's camp have a sense to say "enough" and have her go back to her previous coach.

I don't follow this stuff as closely as you guys do but this case is interesting and this is exactly my question.

It seems we are blaming Leadbetter for screwing up both Ko and Wie.

What's his selling point?

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
