Heard a quick blurb on TGC that Spieth played new irons at the Barclays...

Why would you change irons now and not wait until after the playoffs?

Doesn't look good for Titleist, although it makes sense they'd be anxious for him to play new irons.

Does not make sense to me... the casual observer. Wait ... until the new season begins.

If it's true he changed clubs, then he may not be a factor for any of the Fed Ex events. Changing clubs takes time to get used to....just ask Rory. Some may criticize the timing, but his #1 goal before winning the Fed Ex Cup is defending at Augusta, and the more time he can give himself to get used to the new clubs, the better in his case. If you're an accomplished player and are going to change clubs, you want to do it right after the last major to give yourself the most time to prepare for the next major championship. I believe Rory did it right after the 2012 PGA.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. The new AP2's are the same exact head profile/size.

The fact that the holes were 196 and 228 yards makes it even more ridiculous.

If Jason Day has really figured it all out, then the next ten years are going to be nuts. Spieth, Rory, Day are going to be beating each other up for a long time. Throw in an always-improving Rickie Fowler and you've got quite a group on your hands.

We all know that the golf gods give it and take it away.  He's got it figured out for now, but as we've seen with others that doesn't mean it will remain figured out in the future.  He is playing great and I like him as a player so I hope he, Jordan and Rory battle it out for many years to come.

I agree; he'll have his off days. But I think he could be one of those multi-win a year guys on Tour, which would be incredible.

I don't know if it's all about Jason figuring it out ... mental wise, yes he has. He's had back and hand issues for the last 2 years. I saw him in March on Trackman where he was working on patterns that would prevent a back injury -- nice guy, laughed a lot, even when his caddie/father figure locked the keys in the car... great sense of humor.

He is pouring them in today... (yes, I am Captain Obvious)

5 shot lead and 2 to play. I could win it from here! Good for him. This kind of play is fun to watch!

Let's say JD wins again in the Playoffs, and picks up the FedEx Cup title. That would give him five victories for the season; would he have a stronger claim to Player of the Year honors over Jordan Spieth?

A little off topic but is Day's child a boy or a girl? I never questioned that the kid was a girl a few weeks ago but I swear they just said "he" when talking about him/her.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
