Huge what-if but if Jordan misses the cut at the next two events, how does that change the POTY discussion?

Poll added.

I voted for Spieth because the Masters is my favorite major :-)

Seriously though, it's not an easy call but two majors in a row is big deal.

By itself, it doesn't shouldn't.  Especially considering that he'll likely still be in the top 5 come Atlanta and would have an equal shot at winning the whole shebang as Day, Bubba Watson, and whoever else rounds out the top 5 (DJ, ZJ, Stenson, Rose, etc)

But if he were to miss the cut (or just perform poorly) at all three remaining events, and Day were to win one of them and/or the Fedex Cup, then Spieths POY is probably in jeopardy.

Lol if anyone believes Jordan won't be in contention this week.

Did you have the same sentiment last week at the Barclays?

Jason Day: 4 Wins, 1 Major (T28, T9, T4, 1st), 9 top 10 PGA Tour events out of 16 events.

Jordan Spieth: 4 Wins, 2 Majors (1st, 1st, T4, 2nd), 14 top 10 PGA Tour events out of 21 events

If Jason Day keeps wins a few more of these tournaments I think he might overtake Spieth. These four tournaments have some of the toughest competition all year.

As of right now my vote is with Spieth. If jason could have put together another win, maybe a top 10 finish at the Masters then he would be very very close.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad to see Day breakthrough and starting to win like we all knew he could but I think some folks are going a little overboard on the JD bandwagon. 2 Majors+ a legitimate shot at the GS (top 3s in other 2 majors) far surpasses  the PGA + FedEx IMO. We're all prone to the 'what have you done for me lately' mentality, but IMO there isn't much of discussion to be had here.

It's player of the year, not player of the Majors.

If Day wins the season long point race, surely that has to account for something.

Day can actually reach World No. 1 status with a win and help in Boston next weekend.

I think he needs to win another event on top of next week. He's still a bit behind. Couldn't find any articles that said he could get to number one this weekend. He's two points back which is close but not close enough.

Oh, and did we mention that either Day or Spieth could supplant Rory McIlroy as the world No. 1 at this week's Deutsche Bank Championship? But Day, who will play with Spieth and Bubba Watson again in the first two rounds at TPC Boston, knows he can't obsess over it

http://espn.go.com/golf/story/_/id/13549243/rory-mcilroy-reclaims-world-no-1-ranking-jordan-spieth-jason-day-climbs-rankings The important bit...
The ongoing battle for golf's world No. 1 ranking between Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth could be interrupted by a third party this week. As expected, McIlroy reclaimed the top spot when the point totals were recalculated Monday, following Spieth's two-week reign in that position. But Jason Day, who won the Barclays by a half-dozen strokes this past weekend, could mathematically overtake each of them for No. 1 this week. All three players will be competing in the Deutsche Bank Championship, which begins Friday and concludes Monday. If Day wins and McIlroy and Spieth each finish lower than second place, Day would become the 19th player since the world ranking's inception in 1986 to ascend to that honor.
If Day does not win the fedex, he will have to wait, and try again next year. That said they both have had a great 2015 season. Perhaps, for the good of pro golf, a co-poty for both of them.

The only way Day gets the nod, is if he runs the table over the next 3 weeks.

So he needs to win the Deutsche Bank, the bye week and the BMW championship?!

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
