What'd You Shoot Today?

Shot a 93 (47-46) at a local course, but on a new back nine, which I surprisingly did slightly better on.

Quick 9 on a local par 3 course. Happy with the score.

Dreadful.

A 55 on the front nine. FIFTY FIVE. Wow.

I couldn't hit shit today. Nothing. I ended up with a 45 on the back nine, but only due to putting, I think I had 12 putts on the back 9, and I had a 25 footer just lip out.

Ugh...

Shot an 76 in absolutely sweltering heat. It was closing in on 40*C (104 in that wierdo degree system you yanks use) at 8am. It was so hot, that for the first time in two years, when not playing with my father, we decided to use carts. Not just any carts either, fully enclosed, air conditioned carts. I had never played there before, even though its not that far, but its a $130 green fee with the cart, each.98* if you aren't riding, but we all rode.

In the end, it was totally worth it. We all had a great time. I won some nice bets. Lost some not so nice ones, and got to play one of the nicest golf courses in the area, for the first time. I didn't even know it was there, quaint little place on the opposite side of bay of chaleur from me. Usually, twice a month, one of my foursomes sets up tee times at out non-regular course. Despite the prices, I can see us going back at twice more this summer.

If you are ever in the Matapedia Valley, Quebec area and want to play a great, but not too challenging course, check out Club de golf Rivieremont. (for us English, that means Mountain River Golf). A few challenging holes, stunning, and views like none other I've seen short of playing in the Rockies. The club plays around both sides of what is now a huge, extinct volcano, and I can't say enough good about it. It is very much so a semi private course who will allow groups on as long as they are a CPGA member with a HC unnder 15, as long as they have free tee times (and they do). Pretty much a place for the retired rich to play easy golf. A few days on this course and I'm sure I could be shooting low to mid 60's, its just that easy. Especially since I know that 16 requires an 8i, even though its 9i distance. Couple of blind greens and playing too conservatively, but the course is very easy, and fast to get around.

The bad: Any challenge added to the course is artificial. Bunkering doglegs around the edge of the fairway, where you want your ball to be, uphill par 3's to greens you can't see. but theres only 2 of those instances.

Even the 76 (par 70) I shot didn't bring me down (still the best score of the day). 16th had a strong headwind over forced carry pool of water fed by a stunning waterfall. It was a par 3 they redesigned for this year, and was stunning. But I dunked 2, and put my 3rd (which was really my 5th) long, for easy chip back which was thankfully close to the pin. But it didn't matter, even having to mark a 7 on a par3 couldn't break my mood on such a great course.

18th was hilarious though. A huge oak, about 270 yards out on a long par 5. I had the honors because I parred 17, the other three bogeyed. I hit the tree and watched it bounce back about 150 yards, with my only shot choices being a a draw around the tree with my wood, or to try to launch it over the tree with my 19* hybrid (or 18*5w, and yes there are reasons I carry both, the 5w has a longer shaft and is 15-20 yards longer than the hybrid, but launches lower). Went for the 3w draw, hit it 230 yards, for an easy wedge to the the green, finishing up with a 2 putt for par.

Great day

I had an awful warmup on the range, and then proceeded to hit a bunch of squirrelly shots over the first four holes. Didn't look like it was going to be a very good day. Then, after dribbling my 3-wood on my second shot of the par-5 5th hole, I hit a five iron to about 3 feet and made birdie. After that, it was very consistent and I ended up breaking 80 for the first time in a very long time, shooting 79. I had a hanger on the lip at 18 that wouldn't drop for a 78, but I'll take the 79, especially the way I have been playing. Best round this season.

Played yesterday 44 back 9 72.3/128. We only made it through 2 on the front before calling it a day. Very erratic 44, with a par, 2 birdies, 2 doubles and a triple. I really played better than that just had one unfortunate shot due to not being familiar with the course, first time on the back. I hit 4/6 FIR and 5/9 GIR and what I did miss rolled into fairway bunkers after big drives and 2 balls that landed on the fringe. Cool course, 3 par 3's and 2 par 5's on the back. 18 is a par 5 with water on the left from tee to green, reminded me of the blue monster.

Rained all five hours I was out(downpours/drizzle/spitting), On top of the last 12 days of rain, 2nd round on this course, It was flooded for the most part. had to walk it. Shot a 52/48 for 100...I am pleased because my first time out i shot a 112 when it was bright and sunny...perfect conditions, and this is the first time I've ever walked 18. It does pay to have good golf shoes(adidas tour360's), feet barely got wet, and felt good after walking 18.The Lord did bless me with a par on 18. But since I booked a tee time and played 18 in the rain.. I can add Stupid along with Suck when I refer to my game...

Walked 9 today and shot a 46 - 2nd best round of 9 ever. 4 pars, one bogie, 3 doubles and a triple. 3 out of 7 fairways and 4 GIR. 2-putted all 9 holes. I was a bit heavy-handed on the chipping. Made clean contact, just misjudged the effort and failed to get close to the pin.

This is the kind of golf I had hoped to be playing this year. One round doesn't mean a lot, but it felt good to make the shots I should be making. Even the little things like laying up and club selection went as planned. When I missed the fairway, the ball was still in play and I finished using the same one I started with. I changed my swing (5sk) and grip (baseball) going on 3 weeks now and I didn't expect to play this well for a while. Still have a ton of "work" to do but today was fun.

Kinda had a stretch were i was on the bogey train. Then i lit up the backside with 3 bogeys, 1 birdie, 1 eagle, 4 pars. Overall played well, still need to work on my swing path, its getting better and better. The first three keys are really getting there now.

Today was the first day I ever set foot on a real golf course. It was a 9-hole executive course, which I figured was appropriate since it hit 99 degrees here today. I shot a 69 on a par 35. It was really frustrating at times, but looking at my score from a few holes, I made 2 bogeys and a double on three of the holes, but completely fell apart in the middle. Had 40 strokes on 4 holes, and 29 on the other 5.

I knew my first time was not going to be great, so I just wanted to make good contact w/ the ball, get it in the air, keep it relative straight. I did lose 7 golf balls, and it was frustrating, but I really enjoyed it.

I know I can improve alot, especially if I can start hitting my driver. I reluctantly used it 3 or 4 times, and that is where alot of my penalty strokes and lost balls came into play. Need to get some practice in w/ the driver and keeping it straight. I am currently taking lessons, so I look forward to improving.

Even though I had only 16 putts, I couldn't putt today.  I had probably 5-6 putts around 5 feet and I missed everyone one of them.  Don't know how to explain it, everything else in my game was going well.

Just walked 9. Shot 41. 5 bogeys and 4 pars.

#1 360 Par 4. Bogey - Great drive in the fairway (~280 downhill). Approach wedge was short on the fringe. Poor chip. 2 putt.

#2 420 Par 4. Bogey - Poor drive to the right rough. Downhill lie, 8 iron to just short of the green. Average chip. 2 putt.

#3 128 Par 3. Par - Solid PW to about 14 feet. 2 putt.

#4 540 Par 5. Bogey - Drive leaked right. 7 iron back to the fairway. 9 iron to about 25 feet. 3 putt.

#5 323 Par 4. Bogey - Poorly hit 3w of the tee. Lie is above my feet and I misjudge how much it would go left. Poor pitch. 2 putt.

#6 160 Par 3. Par - Great 7 iron to about 10 feet. 2 putt.

#7 486 Par 4. Par - Best drive of the day (Tees are very elevated). Had 178 left. 6 iron to about 12 feet. 2 putt.

#8 506 Par 5. Par - Average drive. 7 iron lay up. Fat wedge clips a branch and drops. 30 yard pitch jars the hole and spins out. 1 putt.

#9 380 Par 4. Bogey - 3w off the tee. PW just off to the right. Blow the chip 7 feet by the hole. 2 putt.

Clearly the short game and putting continues to suck.

6610 yds. 71.2/121. 76. Left 4, count 'em FOUR birdie putts less than 6 inches short and right in the center. I'm seldom disappointed with a 4.6 differential, but I was today......

Played 27 holes today. 18 holes 95 9 hole course 46 Too embarrassed to name the courses. Many greens in regulation then 4 putts and many shanked chips. The worst part is I am working to improve them, and on the practice greens I play pretty well. On the courses, really bad. I even managed an 8 on a par 3 after over hitting it by 30 yards. The part I feel bad about is that my swing has improved a lot, and I feel my swing is much smoother, balanced with more power behind the ball. I am hitting a bit farther than before. Yet I score like crap. Maybe it's because I need to get used to a new set of approach clubs and par 3 clubs. Going again tomorrow and Sunday hoping for better results. Plus I have a lesson tomorrow evening, with new drills to learn I'm sure.

87 today. Had 3 3-putt bogies. That is so frustrating. Also I tripled the 18th. Kind of a downer to finish but overall a good round.
