Look at the strokes gained approach shots for Scott and Garcia. Par 3 tee shots, those count as an approach shot, right?

So if TIger Woods did this, we'd never hear the end of it. Shane Lowry, a good player, but relatively unknown compared to Woods, does it. Not a peep in terms of complaints. The guy dropped the F-bomb. Twice. The player before him snapped his iron in half I think. 

Off topic, but I swear the networks purposely turn up the volume when the ball hits the water, to add insult to injury.

And then Lowry tweets this:

If Woods tweeted that, people would be going doubly berserk.

Agreed.  (I thought it was hilarious, BTW)  I also find it amusing that they feel they must apologize to us immediately.  As if somebody would accuse them of some huge conspiracy to intentionally corrupt the unsuspecting youth of America on purpose if Peter Jacobsen didn't immediately say sorry.  I think just letting it go altogether, or at most offering up a humorous "ahem" or "alrighty then" would be enough.

Regarding the volume, I'm guessing that they have a microphone or microphones down along the wall near waters edge?  I dunno.

Maybe in Tiger's early years / earlier generation. Didn't he drop a JFC or some such at the Masters (13th tee?) last year live? Maybe it was only on the internet feed. I don't remember a big controversy about it. The talking heads apologized and the broadcast moved on.

Lowry shouldn't have compounded his mistake. That's kinda dumb in terms of his sponsorships.

Lowry fbombs, tweets "it happens" (very loose paraphrasing), PGA Tour calls him in, Lowry expresses contrition publicly, but no regrets.

In fact, I think guys who go out on the golf course and don’t shout fore are worse than someone using bad language!

Lowry's comment on the tee was probably the most honest uncontrived thing spoken the entire telecast.

I agree, we have to move on about these words that society has labeled the "dirty words" and stop apologizing every time someone slips and shows a bit of raw emotion.  Words that are slurs or insults towards race, religion and sexual preference should be avoided, but I'd hope by now as a society we'd be past the shock and fake offensiveness of the f bomb on television.  

I want to see more reactions like Lowry's not less because in the end we're watching humans play golf, we want to see human emotion.  If the PGA Tour is going to discourage that and just focus on golf shots they could wheel around 125 Iron Byrons and let them compete.

Agree. Otherwise, put it on a delay if it bothers the PGA brass that much.
