I said just a few posts up that I'll never make excuses for that. The difference is Tiger doesn't act like he's without fault, the way that Tom likes to behave. Tiger did incredibly reprehensible things. No bueno. But I still love him as a golfer.

Missed that - fair play. I used to love him as a golfer and could happily watch some of those stinger shots on repeat for an hour or more. Would be great to see him get back to it.

Anyhow, we're getting a bit off-topic. Wonder if the dried out greens play into the hands of the bigger hitters. Taking a couple of lower clubs into those greens could really help. Then again, the wind being up throws all sorts of curveballs. I have to say, I'm enjoying this year's Masters way more than last year's - so much going on all over the place vs. the brilliance of one man

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

:offtopic: Why don't we stick with discussing the tournament and players at hand.

Well done, sir. Or those with higher trajectories?

Higher traj, more wind factor. Lower traj, tougher to hold greens. Conundrum.

Looking forward to today.

Tiger was pretty whiny on the course even into his 30s. That's why he turned a lot of people off. It wasn't just his off the course stuff, it was on the course behavior. Remember Turnberry 2009 when he took a lot of heat for the way he acted during the tournament. He was throwing clubs, complaining any little thing that didn't go his way and so forth. He lost a lot of fans because of that.

I agree.....but just had to point out a lot of people like Tiger for the same reasons they hate others. It doesn't make sense, but we move on. Third round ahead and I can't wait. Looks pretty damn cold out there today.

Somebody's going to play the hero and come home in 68 or 69; there has to be a player in this field who is not content to merely survive in the conditions. Otherwise, I wonder which player will win the Nick Faldo Award for ugliest golf sweater today.

I'm assuming sarcasm, but I'll take the compliment :-D. Not sure about the higher trajectories due to the windspeeds. If Rory can play this course like he'd play Royal County Down by knocking his ball down a bit, he's going to do well. So many interesting things going on out there in that final group.

Not sarcastic. Applauding a return to the topic at hand.

Yes, you and @colin007 both make that good point. But maybe there's a sweet spot just below the tree line for approaches? Or conditions may slightly favor some indirect approaches to really tough greens with layups short of green relying on a pitch or chip to get a safe par?

Whatever happens, it should be a lot of fun out there! I am like a little kid at Christmas this weekend; my wife hasn't really seen me between heading to the course and sitting in front of my laptop with the headphones in so she can have the TV. Shame we've only got two more days before the next 2 month wait till Oakmont.

Larry Mize starting with three birdies.  Maybe he'll play well today.  Could even chip-in on #11 for old times' sake.

Mistakenly thought he chipped in at #10 not #11

You are correct, my mistake.  I don't know why I was thinking of it as #10.

Who said it would be difficult today? All you need is to hole 119 feet worth of putts in three holes. Piece of cake

Why did Larry then have to bogey his next four holes?

That wind is nasty, you can tell it's really playing with the golfers heads.  Some of the approach shots are almost impossible to land on the green given the wind gusts.  This wind definitely favors the non-USA players who are more accustomed to playing in less than ideal conditions.  Spieth will be lucky to shoot par and maintain his lead if the wind keeps up.

    • First, it is on free TV. NBC is free to anyone with an antenna, and is on almost any TV in the U.S. with a minimal amount of effort. Charging "a bargain price" would be incredibly dumb. They charged $750 and the event sold out almost immediately. You could better argue they should have charged MORE, not less. What happens if you charge less: ticket scalpers buy up even more of the tickets because they see value: if tickets were $250, they'd clearly have sold for $1k or more on the secondary market. That's tremendous value. Fans would end up paying the same or more, or just not being able to go. Sure, a few who happened to be online at the precise moment on a fast connection and didn't fumble with their credit cards might have gotten tickets for $250, but the secondary market and ticket brokers would have scooped up the vast majority with automated processes and bots and scripts, then re-sold them later on. This way, fans get to purchase the tickets, and the PGA is earning that revenue, not the secondary ticket brokers. Econ 101. Supply and Demand. Nope.
    • Edit - the link has no title, but basically Tiger wants $5 million for each US player to “donate to charity”   They could put the Ryder Cup on free to air tv, and charge the fans a bargain price to get in.  If you have to  give the players $60 million, that’s why the tickets are $750.
