Worst Golfer On Tour

I think this guy Jin Jeong takes some beating. He's finished stone last in so many events this season ive lost count.  

Quite how he managed to get on tour this current season i don't know but i'm sure there are plenty of golfers here on this forum who could have put in a better show than he has. I have to admire his resolve and hope he manages to turn his game around....

Since I had never heard of him I decided to see where he was ranked in the OWGR. So I search for Jeong and there are 20 players listed all with the name Jeong, and the highest ranked Jeong is currently #1,113.

Jin Jeong is tied for last in the OWGR at #1,849, with hundreds (maybe thousands of others) at -0- points. Per his OWGR page his career highlights are a T14 in the 2010 Open Championship, T2 in the 2014 Joburg Open and winning the 2013 Perth International. His recent events have him making the cut in only the  Lawrie Match Play where he was T33 (not sure how he qualified) to go along with a string of MC and WD back to 2014.

By the way after seeing the OP comments I looked and guess who is currently tied for last (at +9, 79) at the Omega Masters?

Just goes to show how tough this game is at the top level.  T10 in the Open?  I'm sure that most of us think if we could T10 in the Open . .we could certainly have a solid career in pro golf.  I mean . .you gotta play pretty freaking good to even get in The Open .....

I followed along a bit with Rick Shiels and Peter Finch's "Quest for The Open" on Youtube.  They both are teaching pros, have quality swings, regularly shoot under par at "normal courses" - they got pretty well blown out of the water in The Open qualifiers.

To really understand it, the best image I've found is to think that there are roughly 50-60 million golfers in the world and not too many that would turn down a chance to play in the pros . .but only around 300 people in the world are playing in the pros with any kind of success.  There are probably several million players who absolutely know how to hit the ball - but just don't have what it takes to play pro.

He probably has status from earlier in his career. He DID make SOME money at one point. 

I played a round of golf with Miguel Angel Carballo when he was on the web.com tour. It was the pro am for the event they had at the Dye Valley course at TPC Sawgrass. I shot 79 that day from the men's tees, and he shot 76 from the back tees.

I looked him up and thought the same thing. "Man this guy is going negative by traveling and missing cuts left and right" We tipped him and his caddie well and they took all the free food they could back to the holiday inn. It looked bleak for him then, as he had to go back to Qschool just to get back on the Web.com tour. (He only made $8,533 the whole season).

I noticed him again when he was paired with Furyk while shooting his 58. I told my wife "he finally made it" and showed her the pic of our foursome from that pro am. He's made almost $700K in the last 3 years on the PGA Tour, so that's pretty darn good vs the common man.

 

Basically all that mumbo jumbo up there means is that, like the amateur, we all go through streaks of good (or great) and bad golf. I don't know if making a statement like, "How he managed to get on tour" is fair.

Yeah as bad as he seems , he would still kick our azz. Seems like he has the funds and time to play for a living. Id be happy.

It's like David Feherty said. "The pro golf tour is a damned hard way to try to make a living!" We're all aware of the "water walkers" at the top of the list, but how many of us pay close attention to the middle of the pack to the bottom of the list? Those guys wash in and out of the top 125 on a regular basis! Right now, there are any number of guys who used to be thought of as "tour regulars" who are now on the Buy.com tour trying to get their card back!

Like being an A list actor is something that the very few achieve, pro golf is really, really hard.  I've heard that golf is hard around here....    Plenty of super talented actors who never get their break.  Plenty of really talented golfers who for various reasons don't make a break-through, but for a couple of shots perhaps they could have been exempt for a year or two, and then built up a better career.  

Better to be a peasant in heaven, than a king in hell is the phrase I'm reminded of.

Jin Jeong was /is one of the great young talents of recent years. He was the number 1 amateur in the world a few years ago. He has had his fair share of health and other issues recently though.

A guy who confuses me is Jordan Spieth.  Hideous looking swing, with the chicken wing finish but he has 2 majors and 8 wins, 4 years on tour.....   I guess it doesn't have to be pretty for it to be effective.

You can get away with that when you have his short game and putting.
