March in FL is like the Friday night of the year.  All the bad stuff (Jan/Feb gloom and cold) is behind us and all the good stuff is either happening or in front of us.

Currently:

Freshwater fishing is on fire

Bay Hill

TPC

Longer days (can practice outside after work)

Springtime in general

Near future:

Masters

PGA

Inshore saltwater fishing will be on fire

Myy favorite time is when it finally hits 60 after a long winter.

Wow last post March? The spring into summer is my favorite time of the year. Yes the Masters, LPGA and PGA in full swing, Stanley Cup underway, College Baseball World Series, oh that nba soap opera has some good moments, just had the Monaco Grand Prix, just finished college D1 golf championships, Isle of Man TT (best race in the world) and now I am off work for 2 months. Golf games per week Up, miles on mountain bike Up, miles traveled Up. It’s the most wonderful time of year!

Hi, I live on a small island in the Pacific Ocean.

This time of year the spring peepers (small frogs) are awake and singing like crazy. The sound is almost deafening at night. It's great and let's us know that spring has sprung. Also - we're starting to see and hear the red-winged blackbirds. Another great song bird around here.

And don't overlook the blossoming of the plum trees.  Always catches me by surprise, but a true harbinger of Spring.

Good point. Our plum tree is just at the budding stage but should be good before too long. I also saw several Garter snakes sunning themselves out by one of our ponds. Probably hoping to catch some of them spring peepers!

When you get a random stretch of a few 50-55° days and the golf course opens for a little play. It's wet, it's soft, it's slow, it's a slog… and everyone couldn't be happier to be out there.

The start of:

  • college golf season
  • high school golf season
  • the NFL (though I care less every year)
  • the NHL season is just around the corner

I agree about the NFL. I still follow it. But every year its less and less of an event for me. I haven't even watched a SuperBowl for many years now. ... I know, crazy, huh?

My favorite thing about this time of year is the golf courses are still open. They are, however, less crowded. Which I always think is weird, why wouldn't more people want to play when its a bit cooler?

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

NFL football, although like others I don’t watch as much or care as much about it as I used to. I don’t usually start watching the games until the weather turns cold because I’d rather be outside.

I follow the Atlanta Falcons and I used to watch every minute, but the last few years when they start playing poorly, I’ll do something else instead of wasting my time. I have a feeling I’ll be a lot of something else this season.

College football.

The World Series.

I like the cooler nights and warm days of September and October up here in New England. I like NFL football, but if its nice out, I will not be inside watching.

Also in New England and I work in the pro shop.  I am amazed this time of year when it’s 70-75 degrees, not a cloud or breath of wind on a Sunday and people refuse to play golf because of the New England Patriots.  Are u kidding me?  It’s like people are “playing in the game”.  I don’t understand it.  They’ll come out and play when it’s raining, call us when it’s snowing… but the nicest days of the year… if the Pats are on, no way.  I get people that come in bummed out that they can only play 9 because of the game being on.  Apparently the concept of DVR hasn’t caught on.

I tell people the day Bill Belichick gives up his golf time/ free time to watch ME work, then maybe we’ll think about giving up a beautiful Sunday to sit in the house and watch him work.

The fall is the only time of the year that I really miss living "up north". After Labor day the golf courses emptied out and they were usually in the best shape of the year. Cooler weather. I miss that. I used to take a yearly trip to the Gaylord area in Michigan every year (with about 8 guys)  in October and play golf all day and then watch football and drink beers all night. Then we all moved somewhere else and got married. That was pretty much then end of that 🤷‍♂️.

    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.

    • April 2025 - Pinehurst, playing Mid Pines and Southern Pines + 3 other courses. Probably Talamore, Mid-South, and one other.  July 2025 - Bandon Dunes, just me and my dad.
