Anyone else ever have this experience?

Yesterday I went to the practice range, got my big bucket of balls, and went to the tee area.  As usual, there were a couple of hundred balls just laying around, abandoned, so I figured, I'll just swat these out there to warm up.   So I started with my wedge, and every shot was great.  Perfect.  So I moved to different clubs, and every shot was perfect.   Every different club, every shot was on the sweet spot and went long and high and right to the target.  I said, what the hell.   So I went to the chipping area.   Every chip,  every pitch, was great contact, flew just like I wanted, landed and rolled close to the target.  I went to the practice bunker, and every shot from the bunker was a really nice bunker shot.  So I gathered up my balls and went back to the tee area, took out my 8-iron, and just had a grand old time swatting ball after ball right into the same landing spot, about 10 yards beyond my usual range.

It was like I had suddenly become a scratch golfer!   Maybe God was looking down and decided, okay, this guy has struggled enough.  I'll give him one really good day.

I've often gone to the driving range and had all sorts of trouble even making good contact.  But I have never gone to the range and hit every shot pure like that.

Very strange.

When those types of practice sessions happen to me, I quit practicing asap.

That's what I was thinking.   Why am I here?  Am I learning anything if I'm not hitting any bad shots?   But, I couldn't just waste a whole bucket of balls, so I hit them anyway.

I'm sure it'll all go away.   For me, golf is a series of peaks and valleys, and after every peak, there is a sheer cliff on the other side.

I don't think anyone gets a whole lot better all of a sudden, so I expect to revert to the average.   It was just very strange.

Don't worry about it.

Next time on the range, you'll hit a long series of shots that sound like a duck getting strangled by a doberman.

I have a theory.   The golf swing is a whole bunch of moving parts, like planets, and they are always moving, they never stop in the right place, but sometimes, it's inevitable, they all line up correctly, and that's when you think you have it all figured out.   But what you don't realize is, all those moving parts keep on moving, and they next time, they will have all moved into different places and you swing is back out of whack as usual.   The planets line up occasionally, but they don't stay lined up.

That's is where I am right now. I can't hit a golf ball to save my life. Shanking it, pulling it, or just hitting worm burners.

But they will line up again.  Hopefully, it will happen when you're on the course playing for something important to you.

I feel just the opposite.  One of my favorite quotes is "practice doesn't make perfect...perfect practice makes perfect.    - Vince Lombardi

When you're hitting the ball really good, it's a great opportunity to groove your swing correctly.  The more good shots you hit when you're swinging well, the better!

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.
    • First time playing this game, Spanish is my native language. It was impossible for me. After 4 worlds I run out of worlds that have the letters I've already found that can be combined with the remaining letters.. just repeated the 4th world to knew the answer. I know the world but it never came to my mind.
