"I'm just happy the rule changed so nobody else can be put through what I was put through last year," said Thompson.

WTF? After having a change of heart on this matter some time ago (thank you Iacas and others) I guess she’s still playing the victim card. Nothing happened to her. She broke a rule (cheat or carelessness no matter which) and was penalized per the rules.

And now she seeks ‘revenge.’ Revenge for what? Busted for breaking a rule? Unbelievable. Sorry, not a Lexi fan anymore. Was gonna let it go but her latest interview killed that for me.

She lost me as a fan as well, and it started with her reaction to the rules official and how she treated that woman right there.

I rooted against her last year. Missing that tiny putt to go to World #1 and stuff was sufficient for me; I won't root against her anymore. But I won't root for her.

Here we go again, Lexi doubling down on BS. Graceless.

"The media was so negative, I just ignored it for months…" she said. Or something like that.

Really? The media was negative? Where was this, cuz I didn't see it. I saw the media making her out to be a saint, a victim, a steely-eyed competitor able to overcome (nearly) the unjust occurrences against her.

I have no sympathy for a professional golfer, getting paid extremely well, who improves their lie or gives the appearance of such by not replacing their ball in accordance to the rules.  Every high school golfer knows that's cheating.  An inch, even a half inch can help move the ball out of a depression or avoid a bump/spike mark/etc in the line.

They need to be held to a higher standard. Relaxing the rules in this case doesn't make sense.

Moving the ball - 2 stroke penalty.

Signing incorrect scorecard - DQ.

Those were fair and justifiable rules.

But as for THIS year.  Today is worth watching..... SH Park putting on a clinic right now.  Beautiful swing, great results.

I am more disappointed by her reaction frankly than the penalty itself. She should have just moved on and learned from it.

She can't and she won't because her reaction to being caught (perhaps more than her action) revealed her true character. She is narcissistic and vile and in my book there is nothing worse than an unrepentant cheat. Any Aussies out there will know that this is particularly pertinent right now. #DavidWarner

I'm with you.  This would be dead now if she'd EVER said "I looked at the video, they were right, I have no idea why I did that, it wont happen any more"  She could still talk about the difficulty of dealing with it, especially with the delay in assessing the initial penalty and the additional two stroke penalty required by the rules, I'm sure it WAS a real shock at that moment.  But at some point she really should say straight out that she's reviewed the video and understands why the penalty was required to be assessed.

The other thing is that her "brand" relies largely upon an eneducated (in golf) audience who believe her to  be a poor victim of an archaic or unfair rule that cost her a victory.

The narrative is about the "call in" rather than her lack of sportsmanship and ch....ing.  All she had to do was own up and say

"Look - I made a really dumb decision and I accept the punishment. Hopefully my experience will save other players from going through the same thing/ We have to accept that we are under close scrutiny at all times. I forgot that momentarily and I deserve the consequences. It won't happen again"

The world (and people like me) would have moved on. I'm pretty sure the the official even said "We know you didn't do it on purpose" (as if she'd know) when informing her, so the LPGA enabled her.

But no, it's all about instagram and bikinis and blaming others.

Her reactions says it all.

An innocent mistake would elicit an apology, acknowledgment, and maybe a little embarrassment.

What we saw was none of those things.  Really calls into question her character, even her intent when she moved her ball.  Golfers don't do that.  I find it hard to believe it was a mistake, and her reaction just makes it more evident to me.

Yea, she pretty much disgusts me.  The more that she opens her pie hole the more I dislike her.  The moment I saw the video to this day I think she is a cheat.  There is zero justification for what she did and the fact of the matter is that she has real trouble with the short putts.   It is also highly probable that she has done that slight of hand maneuver more than once.  I root for her to lose every time she tee's it up.  If she had owned up to it the whole thing would have been over a year ago.  At least with her herky jerky swing she won't be around that long.

Huh? What has golf got to do with the number of instagram followers someone has? :-D

lol, I meant that her swing doesn't look sustainable so I don't expect to her be playing well for an extended period of time.  I mean, that swing looks fugly to me.

I know - and I agree totally! Ugliest swing on the LPGA tour. :-)

I was joking about the fact that a lot of the American LPGA players seem to be more interested in looking like lingerie models than being golfers.

What amazes me is how many other LPGA pros and some golf analysts/reporters have said they were impressed how she handled the situation and was very professional. Complete nonsense....she was quite the opposite of that.

    • Congrats! Day 551, May 6, 2024 Played 18 holes with @DrizZzY hitting irons only and playing the white tees. No really "bad" shots, and a few really, really good ones. Finished on nine (they send us off 10 in May) with… a 197-yard 5I uphill and an 84-yard sand wedge to three feet.
    • Ahh the old classic "nobody agrees with me so I don't want to talk about it anymore"
    • @anaveragehacker, you’ve been ignorant this whole time and now you’re being disrespectful. Not a great combo. You asked what the rules were and we told you. You complained about them and we told you why they were the way they are. The “who is the committee?” Question has been answered a few times. Dave and I are Rules Officials and the other people replying know the rules far better than you, so the fact that we are all disagreeing with you should say something. this thread is going nowhere and your original question has been answered several times.
    • What is this committee I keep hearing about? We’re a small league playing at a county course. And these are temporary issues that may be gone in a day or two. In any case, I wish more people agreed with me. It seems that trying to convince golfers to modernize rules is like trying to change the Bible. You guys are so serious it kind of proves my point. Other sports make adjustments for  field conditions etc during lower level play. This isn’t life and death here, it’s sport. No need to keep arguing. I have my opinion and you have yours.
    • Yeah, I agree that some of the charts are hard to make sense of. That short game chart is showing how often a short game shot ends up within a certain distance. The orange bar is all shots, the green bar is for shots within 25 yards, and the blue bar is for shots between 25 and 50 yards. I just play around with all of it and will figure it out. I would suggest just diving in and see what jumps out and work on that.
