sarcasm....Is that a thing?  ;-)

I guess I've never thought of putting having an A of A.   I'm sure it's something for the experts but I'm more concerned Bead, Read and Speed.

I think the idea is that a slight upstroke gets the ball rolling, while a downstroke can make the ball skid, which leads to an unreliable result.   And that's why a negative angle of attack would not be a good thing.

If I read his tweets correctly, Brandel is not saying necessarily that he recommends a downward AofA.

Seems more subtle what he's trying to say:  the hands are typically ahead of the ball at impact so there some downward component at impact, while the club itself is on an upswing.

Is that a fair summary of those tweets?

AoA plays a role in Speed.

I can't see them. ;-) Post them here?

Never mind. Read the OP link.

He is saying two things. Putter descending is AoA. He can't then say feel ain't real.

Putter delofted? Yes. But AoA still up? Yes.

Wasn't it Chamblee that gave a nod to your excellent putting presentation awhile back? I remember it was cool hearing [him] say Erik Barzeski.

Do people actually think about things like AOA when they play?

It would drive me crazy to think about such details when I play.

But I'm not really picky about the ball I use.

Well, not in terms of an exact degree of angle or anything but you should know in general if you hit up or down on the ball and address faulty tendencies when it comes to putting.

Most people deloft more than they think and hitting down yields the worst kind of roll (skippy). Distance control suffers.

I'm sure a (very) few people do think of technical details like this when they play.  I'm absolutely certain that a significant percentage would think about this kind of thing while they're practicing their putting, it its something they're thinking about changing. As for me, I'm not going to think about AoA as long as my putts seem to roll more than they bounce.

Ball further back in stance, more descending blow, no? One way to do it without thinking about it. Conversely, ball further ahead in stance, less descending blow. No thinking there, just setup.

No. But that doesn't mean it's not important to know this stuff, and to apply it when it's appropriate (when practicing).

For putting instead of AOA I practice putting with my trail hand only to properly release the putterhead.

I use the ping putting app for iPhone which shows my +AOA among other things.  Great app btw...and since using it this past winter I've had my most solid putting stroke ever.

I really dislike brandel, and he recently called moe norman overrated as a ball striker.  wish these golf channels would hire commentators that are at the very least likeable.  I think faldo gets it right as he can be critical, but not a huge dick about it.   miller acts like gods gift to golf, and chamblee sometimes says things like he's purposely trying to get a rile out of people.

i dont disagree, i just think if your job is to annoy people, how can you sleep at night?  and if he's just like that naturally, then.... he can probably sleep at night, but his job should be eliminated and replaced my knowledgeable charming people.

over the years it's really only miller and chamblee that are really controversially negative.  kostis likes to pick apart players swings, but he's not an asshole about it, whether or not he's right or wrong.  faldo is witty, and guys like mccord and feherety are legends as far as im concerned when it comes to making golf seem more inclusive to the average viewer. johnny miller today was constantly making subtle digs at jordan spieth today which has got to be just pure jealousy to see a guy with maybe some less than conventional elements of the golf swing be well on his way to steamrolling johnny millers accomplishments, all by the age of 24.  chamblee might even be worse as he can only hang his hat on one tour win, in what i would consider an incredibly weak field at the acc.

it's like theyre treating golf as wwe raw where the announcers always have one guy who calls the action straight forward, and a heel announcer who is only there to crap all over the good guys lol
