Tigers swing requires a lot of timing moves

??? No more so than almost every player on the PGA Tour. And less so than a good chunk. I don't know where you're getting that, but I disagree.

Plus, with half a billion and 2 kids in Sweden, and who knows what tail he's chasing nowadays, too much distraction and conflict.

I think his kids are with him quite often.

With that kind of money and fame, I think its pathetic he sticks with golf, he could foster 500 homeless children, change their lives from nothing to something.  So many things to do out there, why can't he walk away with dignity and take up something else?  Become a forest ranger.  Actor.  Author.  Doctor.  Lawyer.  Artist.  Musician.   Move to Africa and become a warlord with 20 wives and an army.  Start a religious cult.  Work to reverse climate change.

Huh?

He's a golfer. He's competitive. It's what he knows. Is everyone who plays past 40 "pathetic"? C'mon, man. You shanked that one OB.

Another bet would be does he injure himself again 2018 and have to quit the game again.  I say yes.

Another bet would be, does he get sued for shagging 50000 women?  I say yes.

To the first, again, do you not understand the surgery he had?

To the second… 50,000, eh? :-P I'd take that bet.

Same with Tiger, what counts is majors, and he's still 4 short.

Tell that to the voters in this topic:

Tiger's records go way beyond anything but Majors when comparing careers.

The GOAT thing is a bit like Pele vs Messi. Messi had the potential to be the greatest of all time,  and during his peak he looked like the greatest, but at 30, it now looks unlikely that his record (especially at the international level) will match up.

If he wins one major per year for the next 4 years, he will be up with Jack at the same age Jack got his last.  Not unreasonable at this point in time.

If you were trying to disagree you quoted the wrong person. You should have quoted @Secretmove. Either way we have a separate topic for GOAT talk.

0 the last 9+ years makes it unreasonable.

I’ll bet you $1k Tiger doesn’t win four majors over 2018-2021. And an extra $500 that he never does (regular Tour).

To win a major on his first season back from a fairly long layoff is a big ask

The bold is fine with me. If you want to believe he's this invincible player who no one will ever surpass then fine. Hell, that might be the case but no one can know for sure and we may no longer be around when (or if) it does happen :-O.

Another thing im sure we can agree on is that its going to an interesting season with him back on tour.

We can agree that this may be the most exciting golf season in many, many years with Tiger in the mix.  CBS, NBC, Golf Channel are ecstatic with the prospect of higher ratings, sponsors happy, golf fans happy to go out and see him play.

Considering where Tiger was at this time last year, he has made tremendous progress.  4 or 5 tournaments to prep with good results and possibly a win, his confidence will peak for Augusta.  That would be exciting to see.

Ok , good point, it would probably be more accurate to say that the major gap is what is keeping him from being the undisputed GOAT - something the poll you linked to would seem to indicate, since almost 1/3rd think otherwise. Many think Tiger, but many don't. While Jack has a majors lead (don't forget twice as many times in the top 3's if we're looking at the bigger picture), the question will remain open.

Not to mention the inherent recall/recency bias in the poll. The vast majority of those voting (including myself) never saw Jack play in his prime and did see Tiger play in his.

As for Tiger’s season- I would guess 0 and 0. I think he’ll show good form at times and pop up on some leaderboards, but it’s amazingly tough to win on tour now. It would be an incredible story if he can though so I hope I’m wrong.

Brandel has been praising Tiger a lot and making points I agree with and I'm just so upset that I might have to start LIKING and AGREEING WITH Brandel Chamblee.

I mean I'll do it and pretend like Brandel was always a genius and people should always listen to him because I'm THAT kind of Tiger fanboy but damn. The price I pay for loyalty!

I voted 2/0.   I am basing that on the assumption that he plays and finishes 15 or so tournaments.

If he's healthy, he's just too good not to get a couple wins.

As fun as it would be to see him win a major, I think that is just too much to ask this year.   but, next year, not out of the question.

If he does win a major this year, more than likely, it would either be the Masters or the Open Championship (maybe the PGA he's never played a tourney at Bellerive so I don't know if it suits his game or not.)

But your statement about next year being a better chance for a major, is a valid one. There are two reasons for this.

First, assuming he stays healthy, and wins a tour event or two, he'll have a full healthy year under his belt.

Secondly, look at the course rotation for the 4 majors next year; Augusta National, Bethpage Black, Pebble Beach, and Royal Portrush. He's won at least one major on each of the former three courses. If he's in form going into the majors next year, look out. Even if he will be 43 years old in December.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I don't see him winning this year. I was never a Tiger fan per se, but it was more a thing where I love to root for an underdog/upset. I played and have followed sports all my life, so I always knew and appreciated his level of excellence. I also knew that the old adage You'll never know how much you will miss him until he's gone" applied here. Once Tiger began to struggle the last few years, there has been a void for me when it comes to watching golf. I've enjoyed watching the young guys do what they've done, but felt cheated as a fan that I wasn't getting to see them go up against THE MAN. It's great to see him back, and I hope he can regain what he had. Right now, I don't see it happening, but I would love to be proven wrong... it would be so much fun to watch unfold.

I think that tiger needs to play in some more tournaments before the masters. He is clearly not ready yet. Augusta is a very long course and tigers .long game is not quite what is was. He will never be as long as he was, but I still think he can get a little more distance. His putting could be a little sharper. He is at least consistently around par on every round.

Puzzling that you'd post this now. Three days ago, sure. Today? You're aware that he's T11 and should have probably shot 65 today if he could have bought 12" on the greens.

Plus he'll probably play the Arnold Palmer in March.

I honestly think he will definitely win this year. The scary thought is he's fine tuning his long game right around the right time... I wonder if he peaks in about 6 weeks time.

    • Driver might be out of the bag indefinitely. All I got for success on camera and ball flight is like 50% swing speed. Anything more and it’s all over the place and strike is all over the clubface.  I got no athleticism/flow right now with what I want to do. It’s too dangerous for me because the swing will just get too long and unstable at P4. It’s very robotic feeling right now.

    • He's not and GEARS doesn't really measure toward your midline. It's measured at the joint. That's not why his use of "midline" is bad (part of the reason is that your "midline" is twisted, the top of your sternum can be pointed at a different place than the belt buckle, and your shoulders protract and retract, too. I think he's just trying to use midline to say which way the arm is moving. But they have terms for that — adduction and abduction — so whatever.
    • They weren't necessarily short - I don't remember the exact specifics of all of it, but some of them were missing a little left or right or both. Day 1 they were landing on the edge and kicking on, where day 2 they were just missing and kicking down into the bunkers and did it a lot. I think all told I actually went into bunkers on 8 holes. Some of them were not good shots. Like a few examples, on 8, the pin was in the back. I hit it solidly, but pulled it and it went long, over the bunker into long grass. I had the ball in sandy earth with long grass around it and about a foot below my feet. That next shot I tried to do what I could but it went into the bunker in front of me. Into a footprint. That one I dug out of the footprint, but still in the bunker. Got that one out of the bunker, but into the fringe grass in front of me. Chipped that one on a bit hard and two putts later made a 7. Another was on 14. The flag was on the little finger of green front left. I tried to play a little past it and a little right. Shoved it maybe 10 yards right of where I wanted to and the carry over the bunker gets longer the further right you go and that one hit the grass between the green and the bunker and came back down into the sand, left it in there and didn't get up and down on the next one. I think carrywise it carried about as far as I was planning on it doing so. Another was on 6, leaked my drive a little right into the fairway bunker. Hit a nearly good shot from there that went a little left and a little short and kicked into the bunker front left. That was a strike thing and just a hard shot. Did similar on 18. Drive in the right bunker, slightly heavy second that hit the bank between green and bunker again and kicked back into the sand. I think the tiredness manifested more as not squaring the face up so well and less as slowing down.
    • Depends on how short you were coming up on these shots. A bit more wind? Also, maybe you were swinging at 2-3 mph slower the next day.  I think the biggest thing is not adjusting. Like making assuming your stock shot is not enough and taking 1 club up. Not sure what type of adjustments you were making in your decision making.
