Be curious to see how well the pros adjust to the yardages this year. Last year it was hilarious watching them fly the greens by 15 yards sometimes.

My reaction to this is but they had Trackman last year, no? And the year before that, etc...

That’s the equation players need to figure out this week. Thus, Trackman, a launch monitor that examines each shot’s characteristics including ball speed, spin rate and distance, is working overtime as players dial in their games.

“I think this is going to be the best week for (Trackman’s) branding, for sure, versus any other week,” said Justin Thomas, who won his seventh title in his last 30 PGA Tour starts last week in the Honda Classic. “It's very, very dependent on the shot you're hitting and the club you're hitting, but when you hit those drivers up in the air, they go pretty far.”

This is only the 2nd year the event is being played in Mexico, so the question is do they adjust better than last year. Elevation and such (before this was played at Doral Trump National, if I recall correctly)

David Duval just said the golf course is effectively a 6,243 yard course.

Dustin Johnson shot -14 to win last year. This year, with more familiarity, it should be a bit lower.

But they're still not shooting -25, probably.

Why?

Because they’re almost the exact same qualification.  Seems like one or the other is sufficient.

Ha.  They could’ve just said Top 55 from feb 26 ;)

Also, if wiki is to be believed, this year nobody qualified under the second one.

Agree, but they are trying to grow the game. They don't need to grow the game in Florida.

^^^^^ this..  it's funny when they have a mic on the guys talking about the actual distance vs what it plays....  i watched Brian harmon use a wedge on a 178yd par 3 lol..... but the whole was only playing 150 yds...  lol

i am sure if a couple guys get hot, you will see some low scores...

I think Doral holds a place with me because I've played it and like to watch the pros beat me by 20 shots. Doral killed me the couple times I played it.

RE  Questions about qualifiers and other info for the WGC Mexico Invitational Championship

Here's a category-by-category qualifier list from PGA Tour.COM

BTW -- Notice that there are no categories regarding winners of certain events, such as the four Major Championships, the Players Championship, other official WGC events, plus events with 3-year exemptions (A Palmer, Memorial, Tour Championship). If such categories did exist, then the most recent winners of those events would automaticly qualify. This explains why the likes of Si Woo Kim (2017 Players Ch.), who didn't qualify any other way, is not in the Mexico field.

And here's a page with scoring links, tee times, course info and purse breakdown

Thanx-A-Lot & Enjoy

    • Day 9, May 13.  After work, I went to my practice room for a dozen balls (two sessions of a half dozen each).  I may do more later, but I wanted to make sure I posted here too.  Same priority as yesterday, with the arms lifting.
    • Day 263 6-13 Setup alignment stick station for hands off body drill. Worked on wrist arch as well. Working on not hitting the stick 😀
    • Day 64 (13 May 26) - last practice of golf team for the school golf team….got to hit a few balls while working with the kids.
    • Hi @RetiredOldMan!  I am glad to see you are still playing and having good scores.  I hope that when I am 79, I am not only able to play, but still able to produce as good scores as you have been doing.   I look forward to hearing more of your success and your opinion of the senior flex shafts.
    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)
