Fair point.

maybe - there's something unwholesome about paying for it, but not watching it live (and avoiding hearing about the results until after you watch it....after the fact)

We just discussed this today with our golf group of about 20 avid golfers. Not one of us will pay to watch it.

With the decline of golf, loss of memberships, closing of courses, young people not taking up the game, why put this thing on PPV? We believe you would want to promote the game as much as possible. How many non avid golfers are going to pay for a PPV event, while maybe some may watch if it were on TGC or ESPN.

I pay for all of my TV and rarely watch it live.

Not sure what is unwholesome about that - I record football games every weekend in the fall/winter and watch them after they are done. Maybe it is unwholesome, because I typically watch a game in about an hour, ffwd through the time between plays, commercials, replays and halftime; although I will replay key plays.
Based on my current sports viewing habits, if I were to purchase the PPV Tiger v. Phil event then I'd likely record it, and it would take me about 30 minutes to watch the entire event, but not the time between shots ... maybe 15 minutes.

Players play, tough players win!

nope, you people are damaged and pure evil - PPV is for live events at best.  so distressing, I need a safe space

A good point I hadn't thought of.   I have satellite TV, can't receive any broadcast stations up here, and the satellite TV provider surely doesn't donate it to me.

Cool. I read somewhere that Phil carries about $8k in his golf bag because he is a big tipper and also likes to gamble. He may need to bring more.

Expand

Good thing since Tiger hasn't heard of tipping.Maybe Phil can cover him.

I agree with most of your post, but what does your race have to do with anything?

It's the core demographic, and it's very relevant.

If you can't excite that part of your target audience, you're screwed.

So, if Tiger wins this FedEx thing, does that lower the competitive value of his show down with Phil?

I don’t think so. But it’s a good thing this is golf and anything can happen because of recent ....Tiger set to humiliate Phil.

Absolutely. Phil has plenty of time to start playing better between now and November...but his game isn’t very solid lately.

Even if Tiger doesn't win, he's currently beating Phil by 23 shots. Maybe they'll make it more interesting by Tiger wasting a few shots here and there, by if they both shoot five over, it's fishy.

The way Phil's playing, their gonna have to handicap this thing.

Certainly that's the way to bet.  But I've seen some unexpected results in match play, so you never know.  I know Tiger surely does take his legacy seriously, not sure just how important it is to him to win an exhibition match compared to a PGA tournament.  Also I think Phil's arthritis is a factor.  My experience with arthritis is every day your body is different.  Sometimes really good and sometime not so good. Not like either one needs the money to pay rent. I believe Lee Trevino said "real pressure is playing a $5 Nassau with $2 in  your pocket.  Playing for other people's money is no pressure".  Or some sort of words very close to that.  But it should be an interesting match to watch and if I can, I will.

    • Day 2 March 13th, 2025 Hit a small bucket checking stuff on video. Mostly back to controlling swing length and right elbow.
    • Video 1 of 2025 Lower body is better. Right knee kicks out less. Left knee straightens better. I don’t have that knee bounce post impact. Backswing and downswing with the arms, needs a bit of work. Nice OTT move there. Video 2 of 2025 - hey I can keep it short.  back to trying to keep the swing shorter and control the right elbow. Lots of half backswing feel and very straight arms. Also trying to start the downswing sooner so the swing doesn’t go on forever with the turn. Got to limit it to 90 degrees shoulder and 45 degrees hips.
    • Day 236: did a stack session.
    • Day 164 - 2025-03-13 Got the new QuadMAX. Didn't get a chance to test it, but got to Golf Evolution about 45 minutes before lessons, so I did some backswing and downswing work in.
    • @klineka has already addressed this stuff, but as I said in my first answer… distance control is typically more important. Knowing exactly how far a ball will carry is huge.
