Yeah, like, oh, I don't know… Firestone? He's only won there eight times. Narrow fairways. Thick rough. Gotta hit a lot of drivers.

Thats not where they are playing the PGA, but alright...

It is pretty embarrassing that they have ZJ listed with the same odds as some of the club pro's. No disrespect to them- but it isn't their full time job. Love ZJ as a pick

Zach Johnson the tour player is listed at 80:1 or something. Zach J. Johnson is a club pro.

Uh, he's comparing Firestone to Bellerive. You made somewhat of a blanket statement implying that Tiger wouldn't do well at this type of track, @iacas merely gave an example of a similar place that Tigs has pwned during his career.

If you can find a bookie who isn't paying too close attention, try to get Zach Johnson at 2000-1 (there's a Zach J. Johnson at those odds)

There is actually a club pro who qualified named Zach Johnson. That’s probably who “Zach J Johnson” is. May want to double check before throwing cash down

I love seeing things like this when a company has an IPO and a ticker that might be the choice they'd have made goes up when people buy that one without checking.  I'm not quite clever enough to make money off of this, though.

Looks like they put a little distance between players and spectators here at the practice range (as they did at USO) as well.

When did they start being allowed to wear shorts?  I'm not complaining because even I'm wearing shorts now.  Just wondering, because I remember when even the caddies had to wear long pants.

It's a PGA thing I think they started this year for this event only which allows players to wear shorts during practice rounds only.

If you're tuning into early coverage of the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, you've probably seen players in the year's final major wearing golf shorts in the hot Missouri sun.

This is different from every other PGA Tour event, where players aren't wearing shorts, even when the temperatures swell into the 90s and higher. That's because this event is run by the PGA of America, and in 2017, the organization putting on the PGA Championship decided golfers would be allowed to wear shorts during practice rounds starting in 2017 at Quail Hollow Club.

That means golfers are able to show a little leg in preparing to win the Wanamaker trophy. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, players can wear shorts. When the tournament starts on Thursday and through its conclusion on Sunday (or, God forbid, Monday), players have to wear pants.

This modern-thinking rule should be appealing to players who have been hoping for the PGA Tour to join the European Tour in allowing their players to wear shorts in practice rounds. The European Tour approved that change in 2016, and players took advantage by showing their gams during practice days.

So, you'll get a great view of players' calves for the Monday through Wednesday practice rounds, and then it's game time and the gams go into hiding...in the hot, hot heat.

Golfers: start working on those leg tans.

PGA President Paul Levy announced on Tuesday that shorts would be permitted for practice rounds in all PGA of America events going forward, most notably the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, PGA Professional Championship and PGA Championship.

The PGA Championship will be the first of the four major championships to allow contestants to wear shorts during practice rounds.

Great move.

The European Tour was at the forefront of this trend when it announced in January 2016 that it would permit shorts for practice rounds.

"Maybe. Why not?" Rory McIlroy said last year after the European Tour adopted the rule, when asked if shorts should also be allowed in competition. "It really depends if guys are comfortable or not. I don't think it takes anything away from the tradition of the game or etiquette or how guys look on the course.

"We're not going to go out in shorts at the British Open if it's 10 degrees (50 degrees F) and raining. But at the same time, if we're playing in a hot country and it's more comfortable for guys to wear shorts, then there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to."

When you consider the traditional August date for the PGA Championship -- right in the dead of summer -- this is a rational decision. Temperatures routinely flirt with the triple digits at any given PGA Championship venue.

It took years before caddies were allowed to wear shorts on the PGA Tour, which always seemed silly.

In a profession that chases the sun, really, what's the harm in a pair of tasteful shorts?

Once considered buttoned up and stuffy, golf has hit the mainstream in recent years and fashion is something that isn't taken lightly -- just ask players like Rickie Fowler, Darren Clarke, Jesper Parnevik and Bryson DeChambeau.

Here in 2017, would the majority of folks be offended by professionals wearing shorts in competition? I don't think so.

Wearing shorts in competition isn't being considered at this point in time, but perhaps this decision by the PGA of America paves the way for that discussion down the road.

    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲
