Walking is my preferred option for any weather below 30C . I much prefer carrying to pushing a trolley. Buggy if it is somewhere tropical.

How many dedicated walkers. I walk everywhere I'm allowed.  Luckily I belong to club that encourages it. I carry a Sunday Bag a Ping Moonlite that I only carry what I know I can get around course with management tomorrow I'm carrying a 19, 23 degree hybrid 7 iron and putter a few balls and tees.

I just got bought a small Sunday walking bag.  I love it.  I don’t feel as guilty when walking 18.

Walk and carry as close to 100% of the time as I can, but vacations or buddy trips are mostly cart.  I can handle walking int he summer here in the mornings or evenings, but I'll grab a cart sometimes if I play a mid-day round and the heat/humidity is just too much; most all courses I play here are pretty hilly (my fitbit says I average 50 'floors' climbed after 18 on my home club course) and that'll tend to zap you in the summer.

Two main reasons I walk: 1.) I'm cheap, and prone to take the opportunity to save a buck, and 2.) for fitness, as it eliminates the gym--which I loathe.

One of these days I may buy me a push cart to help the ol' back--but due to reason #1 above--haven't quite yet ;-)

I'm also cheapskate, but I highly recommend getting a "trolley" as our buddies overseas call them.

My brother got me a Caddymatic model for Christmas a couple of years ago, now I can't imagine carrying around the bag beyond simply going to the range.

There are some fairly reasonable ones if you look around.

On our buddy trips, we choose destinations that allow walking (there aren't nearly enough of these). This is why we've been playing at Streamsong for the last few years - walking only. Walking 36 holes a day isn't easy, but totally worth it.

There is a "The Walking Golfer Society."  The original "society" and the main website are moribund.  I traded emails with the "owner" who started the site and society.  He just lost interest and did not have the time to invest.  Some of the regional chapters (i.e. Midwest, Northeast and Southeast) are still active and hold 1-2 golf outings annually at very nice courses.  I am nominally a member (no cost) and receive their emails.

When I started playing in 1961, most walked.  I got in the habit early.  Later, it became a money thing; I did not have much and wanted to keep it.  I walked almost exclusively.  Now, as my friends and I have aged, it is hard to convince them to walk.  Probably 50% of the time I ride because it is required or my group demands it.

I took up golf early in graduate school and this was a big reason for walking.  I carried for a while, and later bought a $100 push cart whose cost has long since been amortized away to nearly nothing.

Love to walk - most rounds are with a short set and Mackenzie Walker bag. Unfortunately my arthritis doesn’t always share my enthusiasm for walking and on those days I’m stuck either riding or using my push cart.

50/50. In league play during the week playing a "resort" course with condos and homes on it we're not allowed to walk and besides for many holes there are long, long distances between greens and tees, sometimes several hundred yards. On weekends at my local course I walk with a push cart. It's only during the walking rounds do I feel like I'm actually getting any exercise. Riding in a cart, getting out hitting the ball and sitting back down and onto the next shot....that's no exercise.

But it’s better than nothing:

Tests performed on a group of amateur golfers seemed to indicate that being in shape would help them play better.
  Quote

As one might expect, the most energy was expended while walking with a bag (721 calories burned for nine holes). But walking with a push cart was not far behind (718). Walking with a caddie burned 621 calories for nine holes, and riding in a cart still burned 411 calories on average.

“One of the surprise realizations was that just swinging a golf club about 100 times uses up a significant amount of energy,” Wolkodoff said.

I'll always walk. It's rarely too hot to walk over here. Plus, as i like to play to a budget it saves money on the golf buggies (although they are fun to trundle around in).

At my local club I’ve only seen one elderly man regularly ride a cart.

Everyone else walks pushing or pulling a trolley.

Having said that Ireland is not a hot country so it’s rare to never that it would be so hot that you couldn’t walk.

    • I am in the same boat, a lefty who has played righthanded all my life because my Dad cut down some of his clubs when I was a kid to hit in the back yard. I am completely lefthanded except for golf, baseball and hockey. It took me years to engage my right side in the swing, but I had a killer backhand in tennis. I tried out playing lefty about thirty years ago, but it was very daunting. Length is enticing, and I could hit it farther lefthanded but it went all over the place. I only gave it about a month before I stopped and I should have given it more time because I think it could have worked out, but I was a decent righty at the time (around a 7 index) and wasn't willing to put in the time. I never had a lot of length, but I could keep the ball in front of me and there is something to say about being in the short grass. Good luck. Hit 'em straight!

    • Although the base rules don't make this really clear, the Player must have decided to use Unplayable Ball relief before lifting the ball.  This exact situation is discussed in the Committee Procedures section of the Rules, section 6C(8).  Section 6C addresses how to rule when a Player proceeds under a Rule that does not apply.  Note that 9.4 applies, 9.4 deals with a player moving his ball when no rule allows it.   Rule 9.4 penalizes the Player for lifting his ball when not permitted by the Rules, and requires him to replace it.  Since he dropped and played from a different place, the Wrong Place penalty applies.  As for a serious breach, that would only apply if the Wrong Place gave him a really significant advantage.  Since he could have taken Unplayable Ball relief in essentially the same spot, for just 1 penalty stroke, the Wrong Place penalty of 2 strokes is enough "punishment", there's no need to consider a DQ.
